Hi, how do you mean drain the oil from the oil filter you need to replace the oil filter not just drain it.

If you cant get the oil filter off then what you can do is hammer a screwdriver through the middle of the oil filter so that it comes out of the other side this will then give you more leverage as you can use the screw driver to undo the oil filter.

Once you have the filter off make sure you rub some clean engine oil around the rubber seal on the new filter before fitting it to ensure that you have a proper seal and no leaks.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

SOURCE: 2007 Jetta 2.5L: how to change oil filter

Usually with draining the oil filters you just screw it off and the oil will drain. It can sometimes be messy but thry to keep your arm out of the way and have the oil pan at the bottom. If some gets on the engine or header pick up some break clean and spray off the remaining oil that made a mess and it should come all clean like you didn't even spill any oil!

Good Luck!

Removing the drain plug and oil filter on a 2005 pontiac vibe

They sell octagon shaped oil filter wrench that conforms to your oil filter's shape. Take your replacement oil filter, then call the auto parts store in your area and ask if they carry oil filter wrench for your car, If a standard filter wrench keeps slipping off, wrap 2 or 3 layers of rag to the old oil filer, then attach the oil filter wrench. The drain plug turns left to loosen, right to tighten. If you're using a socket wrench, attach a 1/2-inch pipe to the handle to increase leverage (cheater pipe). Another solution is a strap oil filter wrench

Looking for the oil drain

here's the whole process
Start the engine and let it idle in neutral until the radiator fan goes on. Hotter oil drains more completely. Shut off the engine and let the oil drain into the drain pan for five minutes.

  • 2 Unscrew the engine oil-filler cap. You don't need to remove it, since you just want air to get in so the oil can drain. The engine oil cap is labeled SAE 5W-30 and is on the right side of the engine toward the front for both the V6 and the V8 engine. The dipstick is an inch or two away on both engines.
  • 3 Slide under the car engine and locate the oil drain bolt. It will be the lowest point on the engine. Don't mistake the transmissionunderlined.png?1 fluid drain plug for the oil drain bolt. You can tell them apart because the metal around the engine oil drain bolt will still be hot.
  • 4 Loosen the drain bolt counterclockwise with a crescent wrench. If it doesn't budge, use a closed end wrench for a better grip. Slide a drain pan under the engine oil drain bolt. Unscrew and remove the drain bolt by hand. Workunderlined.png?1 on the oil filter while the oil drains.
  • 5 Identify the oil filter as baseball sized; a cylinder about as tall as it is wide. It will be on the underside of the engine. Orient your oil filter wrench to grip when turned counterclockwise, if it's the type that has an oriented grip. (Some oil-filter wrenches grip when turned one direction but not the other.) Fit the oil filter wrench over the oil filter. Turn it, preferably with a socket wrench, though a crescent wrench suffices. The male socket goes in the center hole of the oil filter wrench. Just loosen the filter with the wrench. Unscrew and remove the filter by hand.
  • 6 Screw the drain bolt back in, after draining for an hour. If you use a torque wrench, make sure to tighten to 29 foot-pounds. Edmunds recommends replacing the washer, since drain bolt washers are compressible and wear out fast.
  • 7 Remove the O-ring that seals between the filter and the engine. Clean the engine cavity with a rag, including rubber O-ring residue. Coat the new O-ring on the new filter with clean oil, hold it in the cavity and screw the new filter on manually until you feel some resistance. Set the oil filter wrench to grasp clockwise. Place the oil filter wrench on the new filter and turn clockwise an additional 2/3 revolution. Be careful not to overtighten, which can lead to an oil leak. For the oil filter, use GM part 25177917 or ACDelco part PF2129 for the 3.6L V6, and use GM part 89017342 or ACDelco part PF61 for the 4.6L V8.
  • 8 Pour six quarts of motor oil in the refill cap opening of the V6 engine and eight quarts. into the V8 engine. Cadillac recommends that you use only an oil that meets GM Standard GM4718M. Otherwise, you could cause engine damage that is not covered by your warranty. Cadillac also recommends using SAE 5W-30 viscosity oil, with the API "for gasoline engines" starburst on the packagingunderlined.png?1.
  • 9 Check the dipstick, which is one or two inches from the engine oil-filler cap. The oil should come to the cross-hatched area, but not higher. Overfilling can reduce mileage and even harm the engine. Screw the filler cap back on.
  • 10 Start the engine and idle it in neutral until the radiator fan goes on. Inspect the drain bolt and the filter for oil leaks. Take the car off any supports.
  • 11 Reset the engine oil life system after every oil change. Scroll the Driver Information Center (DIC) until it displays "Oil Life." Hold the reset button until it reads 100%.
  • good luck

Hello-what size oil wrench would I need to change the oil filter on a 2001 VW Jetta TDI? Is there a particular brand or model needed?

not really. The TDI's have a drop in filter, and you will only be loosening the cover that the filter rests in. It should be hand tightened from the dealership, so a simple oil filter wrench will work. rubber gloves can sometimes disengage it also.

Step by step instuctions on how to do oil change for 2007 lexus 350 rx

Before attempting this locate the oil filter and be sure YOU can access it comfortably with a filter wrench.
You will also need to locate the drain plug on the lowest portion of the underside of the engine oil pan. The plug likely has an Allen key insert so be certain you have the correct wrench to match, along with matching filter and oil pan plug seal..
Rotate the plug counter clockwise to loosen. I change and drain mine with the oil filler cap off so air can help the drainage. Then I unscrew the filter and reinstall a fresh one being certain the gasket are is clean on the engine surface.
Reinstall fresh filter hand tight, two hands. Install drain plug by hand so as not to cross thread with a fresh seal if required, hand tighten with wrench. Then fill resevoir with at least 4 ltrs recommended oil checking dipstick so as not to overfill.
    After starting check for any drips of clean fresh oil;

Location of oil filter on a 2007 pontiac g6

Oil filter location for a 2007 Pontiac G6. First open and lift the front hood of car. Its some what right from center on the engine about 9 inches from the radiator. All you will see is a black cap with black plastic nut in the center. You will have to buy a special tool to attach to your socket wrench to remove the cap. Turn it counter clockwise to remove it. Inside is a filter attached to a plastic part and rubber o - ring. The filter is NOT enclosed in a metal casing. Remember how it is positioned as you take it out. Pull off the old filter. Remove the old o - ring. Place new o - ring in place. Place new filter on plastic part and place it back inside the engine. Make sure it is placed in the same way it came out. Screw on plastic cap by hand most of the way. The tighten with special tool and socket wrench clockwise, but not too tight. This is now complete. Now you can drain out the old oil from the oil pan underneath the car. Remove hex screw with long wrench for more leverage. One to 2 hours later place hex screw back in by hand and tighten with wrench. Now add about 4 1/2 quarts of 5W30 oil only. Check oil level on dip stick. Add more oil if necessary. Job complete!!!
