Po500 is vehicle speed sensor,-this means that the speed sensor is bad or you have a wiring problem in the sensor curcuit. p1764 means that the sensor could be bad on transmission, it is manufacturer control transmission, fix the speed sensor and then maybe the light will go out for transmission sensor. best of luck carl,

2009 Cayman S, has an intermittent problem where reverse will not engage. Code is P1764. PIWIS flow chart says see importer

P1764 OBD Trouble Code P1764 the main thing to check is to verify the operation of the VCT solenoid. You're looking for a sticking or stuck VCt solenoid valve caused by contamination. Refer to vehicle specific repair manual to perform component tests for the VCT unit.
P1764 OBD Trouble Code Repair : The sensors receive a 5 volt reference signal from the PCM. As pressure readings change, the sensor varies the voltage and the computer reads that to determine input. In the case of a broken wire, the sensor never sees the voltage and the computer assumes a major fault. So if you get this P1764 code, first check to make sure you're getting a good 5 volt reference signal at the sensor.

I have a 1997 dodge ram 1500 4x4 and i nead to know what a p1764 is

The governor pressure solenoid and sensor is in the pan. The two are approx $100 and are fairly easy to change. A couple of electrical plugs to unhook, a retaining plate on the solenoid, and a clip on the sensor.

That is of course that these are the cause of the code.
