When you say it won`t start, do you mean it won`t turn over or does it turn over and not fire?

Starter relay, ignition switch, park switch.need to use a volt meter and start at the starter, see if you have at least 12 volts.if there is have the battery tested.does your head lights come on?next no voltage, go to the fuse box under the hood and check for (2) 12 volt powers with the key on and a good ground.if ok replace the relay.next move the trans shifter to neutral with foot on brake and try and start if it starts you need park switch.if not next is the ign.switch to test, you will need to locate the starter wire and check for voltage when starting if none replace the ign.switch hope this helped.also the alternator has nothing to do with the cranking of the engine on this car.

My 2000 pontiac sunfire wont start when i turn the key. It just makes a continuous clicking noise for as long as I hold the key trying to start it. The. Starter had problems before but than it

first off does it have a remote starter hooked to it, if so disable it, my daughters car did the same thing till I took the remote out sometime the remote won't let you start manually in it is still engaged. next make sure all your connections are tight (battery ans starter, I bought a starter at a local parts store it was only acouple of months old for her car it started to do the same thing so I took it back and it failed their test ended up getting a new one. also check the rely located on the left fender wall it is marked starter it may be bad.

I have a 2000 mazda protege just replaced starter and alternater started has been tested i have a new battery and post mounts when i try to turn the key over it just makes one click and wont start

check the ignition coil, if the coil fails car will not start!! it provides the maximum voltage for the ignition system. but be sure starter solenoid is ok. have a great day!! if this is a 1.8 then get in touch with dealership it may be on the recall list. give vin number! (the 1.6 and 2.0 this recall has no effect on you). the recall is for 99 thru 2000.

98 sunfire wont start, battery good, replaced starter solnoid, starter, ignition.. please help

if you had the starter recall done, there is a relay mounted near the center of the radiator that controls start power. Pontiac dealer sells the part.

Wont start

Is starter engaging but is turning the engine slowly then not turning engine? (that's what I'm reading) If so, check both connections at the block and starter. If reading proper voltage 12v or better, check voltage across battery when in "start" if it drops below 9.5v the starter has failed. (you can turn the engine by hand...correct?)

2000 Pontiac Sunfire wont start

Its likely that you have either a bad ignition switch or a bad neutral safety switch (if stickshift, clutch switch) Try starting in neutral...if it starts, change neutral switch (jump across clutch switch, check starting in neutral with your foot on the brake) Ignition switch is on top of steering column under dash.
