Dodge 2002 intrepid ...serging wont go above 2500 rpm like the governer is kicking in..

I really don't think they have a goverenor..i believe its called a rev limiter...although that's what sounds like is happening, i believe it just may be a fuel issue..perhaps a plugged filter, or pump maybe going. Have it taken to your shop..i have seen, if the spark plugs are bad, then it will also cause the underlying condition as well...so there are a few ideas....my advice is get a tune up anyway, plugs, fuel filter, air filter...then if the problem is fuel pump, do the strainer and fuel filter and air filter at the same time...to eliminate any further problems.
