Is it hard to change a 98 Olds Intrigue power steering pump for someone who's not a mechanic? We knew the pump was going but were waiting for money to replace. Then when refilling the fluid one day and turning on the car the pulley froze and blew the serpentine belt off. Now need to change power steering pump and pulley immediately to get car running again. Is this something I can do with general vehicle knowledge or should we pay extra? Is there anywhere on the web that has diagrams of what needs removed and such? Also is the pump and pulley the same part or will they need to be purchased separate? Any special tools required?

remove the drive belt and check each pulley by hand for drag, or noise. Usually noises from the serpentine belt area are from the tensioner pulley, but since you installed a new PS pump I'd pay particular attention to that-also, watch the belt and pulleys for any 'wobble' too.
If the power steering was ok before the brake job, I would suspect something went amiss while the mechanics were working on the car. And why, when you returned to the shop, would they clean out your power steering fluid? I don't think I've ever heard of anyone doing that before. Unless they knew there was something wrong with the power steering fluid. This may sound crazy, but I'm thinking they topped your power steering reservoir off with hydraulic brake fluid when they were working on your brakes. If, in fact, they did put brake fluid in the power steering, changing the fluid would only remove the brake fluid from the reservoir. The rack and pinion assemblywould still have the contaminant inside it, which could cause the steering problem you described.
your torque converter maybe to blame here. a simple fluid pressure test will tell you that. if the pressure is good, your valve bod might be due for a change.
I recently changed my head gaskets and exhaust gaskets but now that I put it all together it does not stay running, Do I have my firing order wrong ? Also can I have a picture of how the wires should be placed
Key switch?
Starter Solenoid?
Starter?
Battery Cables?
All of these need to be checked.
Do and of the lights work?
Put a meter on the battery. Should show 12 to 13 volts
Have someone try to start the car, Does the voltage change?
Yes, you may have a starter problem.
No, you have a switch, cable or solenoid problem
I have a 99 olds intrigue 3.8l Autozone computer states poor electrical connection or short circuit, or failed vehicle spped sensor or drive gear mechanical fault. speedometer works sometimes and drives great next time it raises rpm and speedometer does not work. Where is the speed sensor or where is the elctrical circuit I can check to see if connections are good.
