Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The two knock sensors V-6 are located in the rear of the engine block below distributor and oil releasing unit and on the V-8 these are located under intake manifold. You’ll need to remove the manifold (intake) to get to sensors.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500. The V-8 has 2 knock sensors located in the center of the engine block, under the intake manifold! Hard to get to. The V-6 has only one and is located on the rear of the engine block below the distributor and oil pressure sending unit.
Good luck with this, Shastalaker7

There are two knock sensors on a 2001 chevy silverado. You have to remove the intake manifold, because both of them are located under it. it is best to replace both knock sensors at one time, and you will need an intake manifold gasket too.

SOURCE: looking for the location of the crank position

Crank sensor; right (pass.) side of block above the starter. You may have to remove the starter to remove the crank sensor.

Knock sensor: There may be 2, a front and a rear. Both would be UNDER the intake manifold on top of the engine block one behind the other about 8 inches or so apart. The manifold and associated item may or may not need to be removed to access the sensors.

Where is knock sensor on 2001 silverado 4.3

I would highly recommend investing in a Haynes Manual if your truck is that old. It is threaded into the engine block near where the transmission is bolted below the oil sending unit. You have to remove the distributor and the oil sending unit to get to it. MARK THE ***DISTRIBUTOR AND THE ENGINE BLOCK*** WITH A MARKER OR WHITE OUT SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY HOW TO ALIGN THE DISTRIBUTOR WHEN IT GOES BACK IN!!!

2000 chevy silverado 5.3, skips a little between 50-55mph, plugs and wires were changed. scanner shows bad knock sensor #2. will changing this correct the problem?

it should but recheck ur wires and plugs first a bad plug or wire can cause a knock ping problem and set off sensor also check the knock sensor connections at rear of engine----- the knock sensors for the 8 cyl are located under the intake manifold so its labor intensive to replace the sensor
