Headlamp Bulb: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Make sure the headlamp switch is in the OFF position.
CAUTION: Halogen bulbs contain gas under pressure. Handling a bulb improperly could cause it to shatter into flying glass fragments.
To help avoid personal injury:
- Turn off the lamp switch and allow the bulb to cool before changing the bulb. Leave the lamp switch off until the bulb change is
complete
- Always wear eye protection when changing a halogen bulb.
- Handle the bulb only by its base. Avoid touching the glass.
- Do not drop or scratch the bulb.
- Keep dirt and moisture off the bulb.
- Place the used bulb in the new bulb's carton and dispose of it properly.
- Keep halogen bulbs out of the reach of children
NOTE
: Avoid touching the bulb or letting the bulb come in contact with anything damp. Oil from your skin or moisture on the bulb can cause
the bulb to explode when the bulb is turned on. It either comes in contact with the bulb, clean the bulb with alcohol or a suitable degreaser and
wipe the bulb dry.
2. Remove the bulbs from the headlamp capsules by reaching from the engine compartment and by twisting the bulb counterclockwise.
3. Remove the 2 long screws from the top of the radiator support.
4. Pull forward the headlamp assembly (3).
5. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the burned out bulb assembly (1).
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
IMPORTANT
:
- Replace a high beam bulb with another high beam bulb. The high beam bulb has a red gasket.
- Replace a low beam bulb with another low beam bulb. The low beam bulb has a gray tip and a yellow gasket at the base.
1. Install the new bulb assembly (1) into the headlamp assembly (3).
Twist clockwise the bulb assembly.
2. Seat the bulb assembly with the connector facing down.
3. Connect the electrical connector (2) to the bulb assembly.
4. Install the headlamp assembly.
5. Install the 2 long screws through the top of the radiator support.
6. Tighten the screws.

How to change a low beam headlight on a 2008 GMC 2500 hd slt 4x4 pickup

If you need to replace the low beam or high beam bulbs in the Driver Side headlight assembly, just pop open the hood and reach in behind the housing.
The low beam bulb is located at the top of the headlight and the high beam bulb is located just below it. Remove them by first rotating the base of the bulbs 1/4 turn counter clockwise and then pull them straight out. Press the release tab on the power connector, slide it straight off, and push on a new # H11 low beam or # 9005 (HB3) high beam bulb.

If you need to remove any of the headlight or turn signal bulbs on the Passenger Side, you'll first need to remove the engine air box.

Use a Torx T-25 star bit screwdriver to remove the four screws that hold the top half of the engine air box in place. Set them aside in a safe place.Pull out the engine air filter element and set it aside with the air box screws.
Carefully pull upwards on the lower half of the air box until it pops out of the engine bay. It is held in place by a few plastic pegs that act as friction fasteners.
With the lower half of the air box removed, you can easily access the low beam bulb at the top and the high beam bulb just below it.

How do I replace the high/low beam switch in my 98 Suburban?

The switch is bolted to the left side of the steering column under the dash. Make sure you have good lighting look under and pull the leaver as you would to turn high beams on. The switch is connected by a metal rod that runs up the steering column. You'll see it moving. Use the proper tool to remove the two bolts that bolt the swith to the column. Unplug the wire harness and angle the switch and it will release from the metal rod. Do not bend the rod! Be safe don't do this with your legs sticking out into traffic. Reverse the steps to reinstall. Good luck

1996 chevy suburban high beams work, low beams and daytime running lights don't. checked all fuses none blown, dont know how to check relays except to replace each one, one at at a time.

with a test light back probe the green wire behind the low beam then if test light on = bulb defect
the blue one is for daytime running lights example : if 1 bulb is burn or open no daytime running lights
p.s. you need to have 2 bulbs the same or it won't work

My low beams wont turn on. only my high beams

low beams are on with the high beams does NOT mean the bulbs are good. The low beams have two separate filaments, one that lights on low beam and one that lights on high beam. That's why the low beams have three terminals but the high beams have only two. It's entirely possible that both low beam filaments have burned out. If the bulbs really are good, then the dimmer switch is the most likely problem.

My headlights don't work, but the brights do. What caused this and how can I fix it?

Every headlamp has a bulb inside that has two filaments one for high beam and the other one for low beam, if any of those filament is cut then that beam (High or low) won't work. If your high beam work then your fuse it's ok, so you can visually inspect your headlights bulbs for broken filaments. remove bulb socket and remove the bulb carefully to inspect the filaments. if the filaments are atacched from one terminal to the other then the bulb it's ok, if not replace the bulb.

2002 gmc safari head light won't work on low beam but will work on high beam

First check, is there more than one headlight bulb, if so, the low beam bulb has failed, needs replacing.

If not you'll probably find that the head light bulb has a double filament, low and high beam. The low beam filament has failed. You have to replace the bulb.
