SOURCE: what can cause overheating in a 2000 pontiac sunfire

Replace the thermostat. It will be fine after that. I know thats what everyone says anytime there is an overheating problem but in this case with the way the system works and it has been working fine up to this point, it's gonna be the thermostat.

SOURCE: Were is the thermostat located in a Pontiac Sunfire 2000?

Hi:
Your thermostat is located under the thermostat housing, which is what the upper radiator hose clamps to on the top of your engine. Basically, you need to start with a cold engine, drain your radiator, then unclamp the upper radiator hose from the engine. Remove the bolts from the thermostat housing, and gently tap on it to remove it. clean up the mounting surfaces on both the engine and the housing, and install a new thermostat, and new gasket. tighten to proper torque, reconnect the radiator hose, then refill up the radiator and cooling system.

Alarm not chirping dash not working

The problem is in the ignition cylinder lock.
The body control module (BCM) is what controls the theft deterrent system on the 2000 Pontiac Sunfire.
It can be reprogrammed, but is complex to do.

2000 pontiac sunfire coolant pours out from the passenger side only when the car stops not when driving and the car is overheating, i only bought this car 2 days ago and they guy said all that it needed...

Sounds like you bought a complete lemon. Most states have lemon laws where if there are untold problems previous owner must pay to fix or buy vechile back. As for the current problem, hopefully it's just a water pump causing car to overheat. Piece of advice, always take car to a mechanic before buying. Might cost you $40 to do so, but better then paying for unexpected problems.

I just purchased a 2000 pontiac sunfire 2 days ago and the dealer stated all that it needed was a tune up cause the engine light was on i took it into the shop to do that and they had a problem changing...

It is a dealership you bought it from. Deffiniatly look up lemon laws for your state! They are alot harder on dealerships then private citizens.
