You can use the 4 ohm speakers if you don't get carried away and crank the volume all the way up. If you really crank it up there is the chance of doing damage to the stereo amplifier. 8 ohm speakers would of course be better, but if it was me I'd probably try it. No guarentees though!
I=E/R Current = voltage divided by resistance.
4 ohms versus 8 ohms = higher current flow which will cause the amplifier (power transistor) to get hotter.
