Cgeist1 is correct. I am so frustrated as I type b/c I have a 2006 chevy malibu with the exact same problem...turn right and the electric power steering goes out. The dealership says I need the steering column replaced at around $1400. I have been hearing the clicking noise coming from the steering wheel. I just left the shop today. GM should address this and recall it b/c I have read of so many of these exact same issues. I just filed a complaint to NHTSA also. This is obviously defective on GM side.
Sounds like the power steering is going bad ,,they have a electric cloumn, youll need a new cloumn it contains the complete power steering unit, its a common gm issue
