Good day sirs, we are from the philippines and we bought a 2nd hand isuzu trooper with a 4jx1 engine, we had the trooper for almost 4 years now, the problem was the turbo, the impeller and its shaft was broken so we had it replaced, we drive tested it and after a few kilometers on the road(6 kms) it emitted a white smoke, we towed the car and brought it home and contacted the supplier of the new turbo because it was again broken, so he came to see the car and tried starting it then he said that there was no oil coming to the turbo thats why it broke. what seems to be the problem? a mechanic told us that it could be the high pressure oil pump, but he is not sure, this pump is expensive and we dont want to be gambling our money on this considering that we have spend so much money on this vehicle, rpcv, rps, turbo, injector you name it we have changed them all. any help? thanks
If you have no oil pressure on the dash gauge you need to drop the tin sump under the engine and check the two oil pick up pipes in there . They crack and fall off or the seal goes hard letting in air so no oil pumps. An known fault on the 3.0
The long one is for the engine oil lube ( turbo ) and the short one is for the injection system .
The high pressure pump is only for the injectors.
If you have good oil pressure on the dash gauge then I agree with Guru Ronaldbrains the turbos are poor but ! its 5/30 oil in 3.0 4JX1 engine or you will have starting troubles .
YOU should have a oil pipe at the top and another one at the bottom of turbo ,,now these are the feed top and the return the bottom pipe.
Take off top pipe turn engine over, oil should come out.. now take off the bottom pipe and blow down it and you should hear the sound of air in side of engine If you have oil going in top and clear bottom pipe then you havent any problems ..the turbos was no good. but change oil to 20w 50.IF YOU hadent any oil pressure then the engine would have blown up at about 1mile from the start Turbo was no good to start with...
Try to check the exhaust system maybe restricted, if there is no oil lubricaing the turbo that would knock out your engine too. that will warned you with oil indicator light.
