This old post is op posting to usa forum with a KB 320, African car, on a USA 99 trooper he did that because, we don't have KB section. that is because we don't have KB's , thus no SECTIONs. for them.

Isuzu Trooper 3.0D DOHC 4JX1 CAN''T START AFTER REPLACING FLYWHEEL Three weeks ago I replaced the faulty dual mass flywheel with a second hand but working one + Diesel and oil filters for engine and Turbo. From then on the 4JX1 engine refused to start. An expert mech. checked the flywheel sensor and declared it fit, still he could not start it. It cranks and produces all the signs of attempting to start but fail to. Did I overlook something? Can you please help out?
you need to set the timing to top dead centre and the flywheel has a little knotch in it set that at 6 oclock will start then

I am looking for an Isuzu KB 260 1997 model Workshop Manual.
try haynes.com or your local parts store for a Haynes manual. For around $20 they are frequently as good or better for home mechanic than factory manuals for $100.

on cold mornings (cold is about 30-40 degrees) the engine will start and immediately idle very low, then stall. I have to keep my foot on the pedal to keep the engine running. can't seem to idle when cold. only after about 15-20 mins hard driving (like on the freeway) will it warm up enough to idle
and not stall at stop lights, etc. once warm it seems to idle ok, except that during mid-day driving the engine idles very high (2-2500 rpm) and the opposite problem occurs and at stops I have to apply the brakes much harder to hold back the engine.
I had the same issue on my 99 Trooper.
It would usually start when completely cold, but idle around 2k RPM.
It would drive fine. But if I shut it down, ran into a store, and came back out, it would start but immediately idle.
Had to ride the gas a little to get it into gear.
The Check Engine light has been going on and off for 6 months or so.
I took this to my local trusted repair shop (no Isuzu dealers within 200 miles).
The diagnosed the light, and found that the Intake Gaskets were bad or leaking.
The idling problem was related to the car not being able to control the amount of air coming in.
They replaced the Intake gaskets by the next day, and I haven't had a problem since. And no more check engine light, which has been on half a year.
Here's some details from my bill:
(1) Intake Gasket set $107.95
Misc materials $21.00
2.1 hours of Labor
The total cost to me was $345.00, and I definately don't feel gipped.

good day sirs, we are from the philippines and we bought a 2nd hand isuzu trooper with a 4jx1 engine, we had the trooper for almost 4 years now, the problem was the turbo, the impeller and its shaft was broken so we had it replaced, we drive tested it and after a few kilometers on the road(6 kms) it emitted a white smoke, we towed the car and brought it home and contacted the supplier of the new turbo because it was again broken, so he came to see the car and tried starting it then he said that there was no oil coming to the turbo thats why it broke. what seems to be the problem? a mechanic told us that it could be the high pressure oil pump, but he is not sure, this pump is expensive and we dont want to be gambling our money on this considering that we have spend so much money on this vehicle, rpcv, rps, turbo, injector you name it we have changed them all. any help? thanks
If you have no oil pressure on the dash gauge you need to drop the tin sump under the engine and check the two oil pick up pipes in there . They crack and fall off or the seal goes hard letting in air so no oil pumps. An known fault on the 3.0
The long one is for the engine oil lube ( turbo ) and the short one is for the injection system .
The high pressure pump is only for the injectors.
If you have good oil pressure on the dash gauge then I agree with Guru Ronaldbrains the turbos are poor but ! its 5/30 oil in 3.0 4JX1 engine or you will have starting troubles .

how to timing the belt of isuzu 4jx1
before you remove belt time mark on cam gear as well as crankshaft pulley, the timming mark on the pump drive gear (lower gear in this picture) will not line up but thats ok line up the mark on pulley to rear cover at about 12 O clock when the belt is off.

what could be the problem pls asisst
You must use 5/30 fully synth oil and i guess if you did that and still wont go its going to be air so pump away a bit longer on the primer .Should be some pressure there when its ready to go .
