I'm installing a sony aftermarket stereo. I have a 1996 ford explorer with the stock radio, no CD, no changer, just a tape deck. I have power to my new stereo and the speaker wires are connected, but for some reason I can't get sound out of the speakers. I'm puzzled...is there an amp wire that I need to connect in order to get sound?
You may have a factory amplifier in the rear of the explorer in the right cargo panel. You need to supply power to it by connecting the amp power on (Blue/White I think) in the dash to a power source (such as red on your stereo harness) so it comes on with the key. If you do have the amplifier, that's why you have no sound.
Does the new stereo come on? Check that you connected the speaker wires correctly. Both positive and negative speaker wires from the stereo need to be connected to the speaker leads in the vehicle.
Testimonial: "I do have power to the radio and it turns on and says that the CD is playing, but there is no sound. I'll have to try again."
Do you have power to the battery live wire and the ignition or keyed wire?if you do make sure that you have a good ground,if you do correct the faulty circut.
