SOURCE: Power Steering Pump

you need an 18mm crows foot wrench 12" 3/8 extention N ratchet N 10mm socket. remove the belt, use crows foot to remove the pressure line, remove other tubes, remove 4 10mm bolts and pluck the pump out, go to autozone or some large chain auto parts store and buy a pully remover/installer use it then bring it back,( they have a loaner program) without the puller you will never get the pully off.

I have a 1999 ford windstar and it's power steering start to whine about a week ago don't under stand why add more fluids helps but then it starts again also can hear air when i'm going to park and turn...

Check your Power steering lines especially where they may clip to a plastic holder on the frame. Water and salt spray like to corrode the line at these points. Sometimes you may need to disconnect the line and take it off and test it for pressure holding capability.
Make sure you use the correct fluid for your Brand. Sometimes the vanes inside the pump wear, especially if it ran dry. Then the unit will need to be replaced.
Last, when steering pivots, like balljoints wear, they cause more drag making the unit to work harder to steer. The pump can squeal under the added resistance.

a pressure line on a power steering pump would be blasting the fluid out,, not just a small leak,, and with power steering hoses, your b est best is to replace the line as factory specs call for,, I have a honda that for some unknown reason they decided the PS hose needed to go all the way around the back of the motor, and back within 8 inches of where it came from to the steering arm,, silly I know, But that way its costs 10 times as much ,

I have a 1998 Ford Windstar 3.8 and my power steering fluid is leaking out of one of the power steering lines that run down the back of the engine. The question is.....how the heck do you get at this...

It's recommended to replace the low pressure return line that goes to the back of the engine area, to take it to a garage because the vehicle must be lifted high enough to work on it safely and easily.

I need to know where is the oil presure switch of a 2003 ford windstar 3.8l

On a 1996 3.8 L Should be under the power steering on the block. Looking at the pulleys on the right side just above the oil pan. This would involve removing the pwr steering punp and hoses.

I don't know if a 2003 is different.. You could inspect the area visually to check it.

To get to replace it...
96 - 98 windstar 3.8 oil pressure switch is located under power steering pump. Remove serpentine belt and alternator. Remove PS pump pulley with special puller to get access to PS pump bolts. Drain PS pump and remove PS hoses. Remove PS pump.

2003 Windstar: power steering noise...

you need to change the power steering filter first to see if it makes it less noisy, if that does not work then you mave have rack and pinion seals going to out. it could aslo be the power steering oil cooler or the lines colaspeing just change the hoses to the cooler it is not hard and costs 10 bucks for the hose.

Fluid is leaking and i can not steer

you are leaking power steering fluid. the high pressure line is the most common problem with windstars. other leakable parts are the rack and pinion, power steering pump, low pressure line or power steering reservoir.

My 2003 Ford Windstar whines when turning the steering wheel.

The power steering pump has gone bad. Consider replacing it because if serviced it will still show this sign in a little while.

Good luck.
