SOURCE: 1995 BMW 318Tds Fuel Starvation Problem
Sorry this is not a solution. Just to say I own a 1997 318tds which only starts on the button if the tank is at least half full. This was looked at professionally shortly after i bought the car 3 years ago.( I did wonder why it was sold to me with such a full tank). I was told it would need the fuel tank replacing. Bearing in mind the value of the car & the fact the owner is now too geriatric to do major repairs, I just make sure it is always half-full, and live with it.. This could be your problem. BMWs chap said it was logged on their system as a known but unusual fault.
SOURCE: 1999 Volvo s80 fuel line leak before and after the fuel filter
this perticular solution requires special fuel line tools to disconect the clips on the line. I would first locate the leak and determine if the entire fuel line is at fault or if it is just a connection. most commonly a piece of the line has deterieated and cracked and can be readily replaced with an OE part from a local parts house. a fuel line disconect for your vehicle can be gotten at the same parts place in most cases. Just ask the counter person what disconect it takes.
SOURCE: how do i gain access to fuelpump on 2002 volvo v70
From Volvo Cars of North America letter I received: "[Volvo] has voluntarily decided to extend warranty coverage for the fuel pump on U.S. model year 2001-2002 Volvo S80, S60, V70, and XC70 vehicles."
The letter goes on to describe conditions that in the end, may result in a fuel odor. "Coverage is limited to the symptoms described in this letter for the fuel pump only."
Contact a Volvo dealer to have this corrected under warranty. If you already paid to have this fixed, then you can submit the repair order with a copy of the warranty letter (keeping both for your records) to Volvo on the address on the letter. If you did not get the letter, I'd suggest contacting Volvo.
Bottom line is that you should not have to pay to have this fixed.
SOURCE: Removing fuel pump from 1993 volvo 940. I know
you have to spin the pump a little and work around pay attention to how it comes out my first one i got excited and couldnt get it back in but i lowered the tank a little and it was easier
SOURCE: Fuel Pump replacement
you have to remove the rear seats and roll back the carpet. if it is a seven seater you have to take out some ac ducts. then there are two access ports on each side of the floor. they are usually black and have four nuts holding them down you remove those and then you have access to the pump. you need some volvo special tools to remove it. volvo has recall 220 going right now and your fuel pump maybe covered under it. i would definitely talk to the dealership about it. because that would be no out of pocket cost to you
