Jaguar fuel gauge problem: Gauge was showing inaccurate levels.
I changed the sending unit float from the tank: Now I get a full level reading constantly. The old part number was DBC 10983, the new part number I used was DBC 11188. They looked identical. The only thing I can think of is there is bad relay somewhere or the float is stuck in the up position.
Any wisdom out there on this..?? I did change the instrument cluster and the fuel gauge reads the same on both. I am thinking a relay or stuck float?
Sounds like you got the float stuck when you installed the new part, have seen this hapeen often
Testimonial: "this was helpful, part of my own suspicions and if this is from a jaguar mechanic, I would say very helpful if there is no relay involved.??"
Hello Marvin, I just found your answer here and hope to get your opinion. I have a 2005 Jaguar XJ8L which needed a new fuel pump (failed to start). A local mechanic replaced a fuel pump (right side) and after that, the fuel gauge has been stuck on 3/4 full (up and down a little bit) even after I filled up the tank and even I knew it was close to empty after my calculation of mils driven. It once dropped suddenly to empty and cause scared a lady driver. I took it back to said mechanic and he said both fuel sending units will need to be replaced. I was kind of suspicious and told him I wanted to think about it. From what you said above "Sounds like you got the float stuck when you installed the new part, have seen this hapeen often", I highly suspect this was what happened. I wanted to know before I put two new sending unit in the tank. From the symptoms described above, do you think this is what happened, float got stuck?
