Cooling Fan not coming on 2002 Mitsubishi Galant

I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant and the radiator fan is not coming on. The car overheats when traveling in town or on inclines. I've checked the fuses for the fan and they are ok. Could this be the engine heat sensor? Or something else. The car cools when I turn the heater on. Please help.

Check the fan itself for free turning--if it grinds or is hard to turn, replace the fan motor. The engine heat sensor reports temperature to the computer which turns on the relay and it turns on the fan motor. If you have A/C, turn it on--that should force the fan on all the time the car is running. If that works, then replace the sensor. If you don't have A/C, take a chance on the sensor--it's not too expensive. Wrap the threads with several turns of teflon tape when installing and don't over-tighten.

2002 mitsubishi galant are fans supposed to run when starting car?

The fans should run whenever the AC is on. But if it's off, the fan should only run when the computer thinks the temp is too high

Car run hot when aircondistion is on high, when i turn air off or down car timp gose down

I think your radiator cooling fan is not coming on when the a/c compressor kicks on. Check the cooling fan relays, low and high speed, and the fan too.

My 2000 galant is having high engine temp when i stock in traffic, but it is in normal range when im running. i change already the thermostat, rad cap and hoses, but nothing changes. what would be possible...

Sounds like the radiator fan isn't coming on. You don't need the fan on when you're moving, cause air is blowing into the radiator, but sitting still you need the fan or it'll overheat. This makes me think the fan isn't coming on.

Cooling fan not coming on car overheats

The cooling fan motor may be bad. When you turn the air conditioner on the fans should automatically come on. This will tell you if the moter is good. Check the relay for the cooling fan motor as well. I hope this helped and good luck.

Car overheated and lost all power. how do I get it to start?

ENGINE NOT GOING TO START IF GET TOO HOT FIRST THING I WOULD REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP THEN ADD COOLANT UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL CORRECT THATS WHEN THERMOSTAT OPEN UP AND TOP HOSE HOT.CHECK FOR LEAKING RADIATOR HOSES CHECK TOP RADIATOR HOSE CHECK BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE.CHECK FOR LEAKS AROUND THE RADIATOR LOOK DOWN BELOW COOLANTS FANS CHECK FOR LEAKS AT RADIATOR CORES OR LEAKS AT THE RADIATOR PLASTIC SIDE CONTAINERS. CHECK FOR LEAKS AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE AND CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE HEATER HOSES AROUND ENGINE BLOCK TO THE HEATER CORE HOSES. THERE IS A REASON CAR OVERHEAT.IF CAR OVERHEAT WHILE DRIVING YOU HAVE FAULTY THERMOSTAT OR LEAKING OUT COOLANT OR BLOWN HEAD GASKET.IF ENGINE OVER HEAT WHILE SITTING DURING A LONG IDLING PERIOD.YOU COULD HAVE FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR OR FAULTY COOLING FAN FUSE OR RELAY.HOT WIRE COOLANT TO SEE IF IT RUNS IF NO REPLACE FAN MOTOR. IF YES FAN MOTOR COULD HAVE FAULTY WIRE OR PCM FAILURE. CHECK ENGINE CRANKCASE IF OIL LOOKS LIKE MILK SHAKE ENGINE HEAD GASKET LEAKING.

Car will overheat while at idle

yes the head gaskets leaking on modern aluminum head engines is all to common. never overheat them, if they start to get hot shut it down and find out why, it can of course be the fans and plugged radiators or faulty thermostats but sounds like in your case the head gasket is leaking and combustion gas is entering the cooling system and this causes an overheat

The galant will overheat if ac is not on

The temperature sensor for the radiator cooling fan is probably bad. When you turn the AC on, it overrides the sensor and the fan runs all the time while the AC compressor is engaged.
