Noise in steering of 1996 lincoln towncar

There are seals for the shafts and a gasket for the top cover. Auto parts stores can get you the parts you need.

These can be rebuilt, but unless you have experience or a good shop manual is is easier to just replace unit.

1. Press and hold the OFF button for a few seconds. NOTE: On some models, this will toggle the display on and off.
   
2. Check to see if your car stereo has a dimmer setting, which can disable the display. If the car audio system does have this setting, try adjusting it to the different dimmer settings. Sometimes the dimmer setting is on the left side of the steering wheel where the lights are.

Power steering fluid is low. If that is ok then you have a bad water pump or power steering pump.

Check the power steering switch, located under the power steering pump. This problem will set a code 52 on a two digit code system, for the 2007 Lincoln Town Car.

This happens when the choke valve stays open too long, so it all depends on the car. Sometimes it can be 5 minutes, and other times it may be hours.

Can you describe the noise? If it is a whine, then you may need to add fluid or flush the system. This must be done periodically just like engine oil. You may also have a bad pump if neither helps the problem. Clunking or popping while steering could be bad tie rod ends or ball joints. Look behind the tire and check for worn or ripped boots on the tie rod ends.

Sounds like your heat and a/c door actuator motor. Does your heat and a/c switch over from one to the other correctly?
