2003 Acura TL 3.2 61,000 transmission

2003 Acura TL 3.2 61,000 miles driving on highway with cruise control set, transmission down shifted on it's own, then acted like in neutral. pulled over, smoke and tran oil all over the engine. had the car towed back home, once home was able to drive car to Acura dealer A who advised me I need a new transmission ($3,600 not covered), asked for key back, took to Acura dealer B, while car was at Acura dealer B, Acura dealer A called back and said Acura would cover 90% of cost of new tranmission. Meanwhile, Acura dealer B had car for 5 days, put over 100 miles on car and says that they can not find anything wrong with car. Decided to take car to Acura dealer A and take them up on the offer or new transmission for 10% of the cost. Get new transmission installed and front brake job. First day I got the car back the TCS & engine light turn on. Take car back to the dealer, they reset the light. 2 days later, TCS & engine light back on. Car is back at the dealer. I am starting to think that I did not need a new transmission or that they broke something else. Please help.

I doubt they did anymore damage but i`ll bet that the engine was damaged from the training going out such as valve guides and seals and carbon build up on plugs ETC.

SOURCE: 2004 acura Tl cruise control wont engage

This is a problem you will to take to a shop, If you are mechanically inclined I can help you, but if not I would not mess with it, it could be the button or it could be the controller and could even just be a fuse, check the fuse and if you don't find the fuse blown then let me know if you have a volt meter and what to test this yourself. You are going to be working around the air bag too and if you probe the wrong wire while testing you could break your arm or leg by deploying the air bag by accident. Or your neck.

What to look for on 2003 acura TL cruise control is not working?

Check the actuator under the hood. Has a cable that goes to the throttle. Is it plugged in? I believe there is a vacuum line to it also, is it good?

When do I use the d 5 gear in in 2003 acura tl 3.2 liter

the car is quicker in d-4, but d-5 is like a overdrive on the open highway. good-day!! D4 for me unless I'm on the highway doing 55+. I think the car drives better in D4. I tend to get some hesitation between 30-50 in D5.

When do I use the d 5 gear in acura 2003 tl 3.2 liter

Pretty much all the time!

D3, D4, and D5 are all just *DRIVE* like on any automatic transmission, EXCEPT
that the number next to the D is the "highest gear the automatic transmission will go into".
The Acura just gives you a choice, in case you don't want to go into a higher gear (like if it's slippery traction or a steep hill, etc.)

1 means: Manual gear. FIRST GEAR ONLY.
2 means: Manual gear. SECOND GEAR ONLY.
D3 means: Use automatic transmission, but engine will never shift above 3rd gear.
D4 means: Use automatic transmission, but engine will never shift above 4th gear.
D5 means: Use automatic transmission, but engine will never shift above 5th gear.

Hi my 2003 Acura TL just today started accelerating and shifting late and early what could this problem be? the car has 93k miles on it

when is the last time you changed the transmission fluid? , this sounds like an erratic transmission that needs to be looked at. Take it to a certified transmission expert to check it out as soon as possible. thanks for visiting fixya!

ABS light staying on, lost my cruise control, overdrive shut off going down the highway a couple of times, and not shifting right when going 55-60 on the highway when shifting into 5th gear i.m guessing....

its the solonoids on the solonoid block, 3 of them are sticking, there is alot of videos on what to do,on you tube, very common problem, mine runs and shifts great now

2003 acura tl won't crank over.

Sounds like tranny froze up. Not what you wanted to hear, but the shop that put the tranny in should have given you a warranty. The lights came on, because the engine stalled. Please rate me if you find this helpful, thank you.

RPM shot up to 4.5/5 while idling

I have a 2003 Acura TLS, bought new Oct 2002 currently with only 42600 KM (real low) My problem appears to be the same. I noticed specificly on warm days after 30 min driving, when coming to a stop, the idle was about 3500 RPM. Parked the car, turned it off. When starting up again, RPM stayed at 3200, also couldn't put into drive (possibly safety mechanism to prevent damage to transmission). After 30 min when cooled, was able to start again - OK.
I brought it to the dealer thinking possibly connected to FAULTY TRANSMISSION". There was a special extended warranty issued by ACURA >>> http://www.internetautoguide.com/auto-recalls/09-int/2003/acura/tl/index.html I believe it also includes 2002's. Your Dealer should check into it again.
My dealer, ACURA LAVAL (in Que, Canada) seemed to look at nothing else than the transmission. In fact, 2 days after not hearing from him, he told me that they had already ordered a NEW Transmission which is being put in as I write.

Hope this is helpful to any Owner/Dealer who reads this

Best Wishes from the Great White North- Canada
