Steering Wheel shakes at 60+

I had 4 Dunlop tyres fitted about a month ago and since the steering wheel has shaken when reaching speeds of 60+ . I have taken it back into the garage and they have double checked the balancing. I was thinking of taking it into the garage to have the tracking checked but I am beginning to wonder if it is just the tyres. Seems a little too co-incidental that it started with the new tyres.

Yes it most likely to be the balancing. I have encountered this in the past where the garage balancing machine is due for re-calibration. Taking it another garage has resolved the problem.

My steering wheel is shaking, is this caused by worn tie rod ends? If so, is this expensive to repair?

your tyre could have a bulge or the balancers have come off. Could be under inflated. You havent run over anything? You may only need a wheel balance. Have you run over a gutter and bent the rim.

Shakes, steering wheel hard to turn. RPM's at 2 when going 15mph.

Have you checked the power steering fluid? Do the belts squeel when you turn the steering wheel?
I know this might sound silly but are your air pressures in your tyres correct? Low air pressure will cause your steering to shake at speed and it will be hard to turn at low speed.
I hope this helps,
Scott.

My 97 jeep cherokee front drivers wheel staggers when at speeds of 45 to50. but it stops around the speed of 60

hi there ,this is a tyre problem we in the business call an "out of round tyre" to find which tyre it is so you can replace it ,go to each wheel and feel around the tread part of each tyre with your bare hand laying flat on the tread and feel right around each tyre ,you will find the problem tyre quite fast using this method as you will feel a raised bit on the bad tyre thats making your steering wheel shake ,a reputable tyre shop could do this for you if you dont feel capable ,then have the tyre replaced and ask them to balance all your wheels in the processand THANK YOU for using FixYa !!!

Shaking when driving. bought new tires in front 18 months ago. bought the car 3 years ago it was already lowered bought back tires six months ago had alighned two months ago started shaking after and tires...

get under the vehicle (use ramps) and check all linkages for movement pull push on the anti roll bar links, pull push on steering rack and pinion and linkages, any excessive movement, jack each wheel at a time, using a bar check the lower wishbone joints for movement, get the bar in the gap between the wishbone and lower part of the shock. and pull down, if any movement in ball joint up and down replace. while wheel on vehicle check for movement in bearing you will feel a tiny amount not much but pull and push on wheel with opposite hands on 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and do the same at 9 and 3. now with both wheels off the ground but with the tyres still on, have some one holed one wheel and push pull on wheels each side there should be even movement between both wheels, if everything is fine with the the steering linkages and this dose not feel or sound right then this could be the problem also to add if the inside and out side of the tyres are wearing then the tyre pressure is wrong and needs adjusting to the right tyre pressure .
