I just purchased a 2006 vw convertable. The key will not work to lock or unlock the door, or open the trunk. The annoying thing is not being able to open the trunk...I dont mind using the key to open and lock the door although if there is a quick inexpensive fix for that I would be grateful for the advice. I need to be able to access the trunk. I haven't found a way to get in using the key and the door button opens the gas tank but not the trunk. Please, any advice on either issuewould be great. My husband is disabled and all of our money went into the purchase of the car. We did not know the trunk wouldn't open, the ragtop leaked, and every electronic button is loose. We will be sealing them on in a way that they will stay but can be taken off later. Ugh...did I make a big mistake?????

I would start with a new battery in the key fob.

SOURCE: Remote car door opener got wet and won't work

Well first open it up completly. Remove the battery. Get a hair dryer and dry it out completly. Then let it stand for several hours to cool down. Make sure that the contacts where the battery fits are clean of any rust, or corrosion. Now install a new battery. It should work.

SOURCE: keys lock in trunk alarm will not allow trunk switch to lock

The solution is to pull out the back seat to get into the trunk. There are two bolts holding the bottom part of back seat (bolts located between bottom and top sections). Then pull out bottom section of back seat and you see the hinge for the top section, remove the bolts and then you can lift up and access the trunk. It's not that hard.

On 2006 saab conv trunk wont unlock using handle on trunk lid, works using remote and door button

Saab have an auto-lock to thier trunks. So that nobody else can open your trunk while you're in the car etc. If you open and then closes a doot the lock should unlock. If not, your modell is only unlockable with key/doorbutton.

I have a 2006 VW Passat. Unable to unlock the car doors with the key fob (no manual key at all or even keyholes in the doors sadly) so this is my only way to get in the car. Every other button works on the...

The control unit (comfort system central control module) that opens the doors from the fob signal is usually under the dash on the driver's side. You cam see it on page 7 or so of the diagrams at http://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/Wd/DownloadPdf?id=132991

Since the other fob features are working, it might be that the module just doesn't recognize the signal the fob is sending.
Or maybe the fob is not sending a signal at all. Very hard to troubleshoot, but you can check to see if the control module is sending voltage to the locks by probing the connectors on the module.

When you press the trunk open button, do you hear any "release" noise come from the trunk area? The issue may be a bad battery in the key fob OR there could be an issue with the transmitter located inside the vehicle. Do the doors lock and unlock properly? is the vehicle equipped with security or immobilizer? please advise

But a used 2006 solara but key fob does not remotely open trunk. Any suggestions?

Yes, insure that you have power to the trunk lock inside trunk, If not could be lose/broken wire or shot fuse. I am sure the key fob does work for the doors? If not have key fob battery replaced. Also, a quick check on power to trunk lock, check to see if have remote power button inside car, if it works power is good. Defective key fob would then be indicated.

1997 bmw convertable trunk will not open

I vaguely recall reading something in the owners manual of my '97 328 regarding the trunk and the master key. Something about locking things with the master key so that valets cannot open your trunk with the valet key.
Try unlocking the driver door or the trunk with the master key (the original key that had the LED flashlight in it.
