First, scan for codes. If nothing comes up, flush the transmission fluid and change the filter. That might help.

This is a known condition. And, is under warranty.

Take your vehicle to a Toyota dealership. Ask them to replace your ECU per TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) TC015-07. The new ECU has redesigned logic that rectifys your condition.

SOURCE: VW Passat 2006 service now

2 options depending on your displays .

Press and hold the service wrench button with the ignition off. While still holding the button, turn your ignition to "on" (but don't start the car). Press the Min clock button and then release the wrench button.

With key off press and hold the 0.0 button on the cluster. With your other hand turn the key to the on position , while still holding 0.0 button, press the minute button for 1 second and you will see the service reset.

There is an electrical malfunction in the EV5 solenoid electrical circuit. You must go to Advance Auto or Autozone and borrow their scan tool and get the code.

Transmission slams hard when down shifting. rattles car. 2007 vw passat. 2.0 turbo automatic

Need more clarification when driving and park. Happen to vw a lot with no solution. Could be electrical ( Tcm + Wiring conector, ECM) ( fluid change fluid+filter add lucid tray oil) or mechanical. Rattle could be engine or evap thing located under or next to air filter. Alternator also. The engine you speak of is know for sludge build up problems by VW. They've even made recalls base on what I've heard. Check oil circulation and how to fix oil circulation problem. Drop the the oil pan and clean filter screen where it sucks in oil. Other things related need to be unclog..

How do you turn off the immobilizer on a Volkswagon Passat and remove the wrong key that was used?

Just happened to me in a 2006 VW Passat 2.0T - Automatic. You simply need to depress the brake and then press the button on the shift lever 3 times. You will then hear the key being released and you can pull it out.

My 2002 passat 1.8 litre tiptronic automatic shift indicator is not moving? Would that be a switching problem on the shifter, transmission or lights?

Sounds like the whole shifting unit. It has a printed circuit strip unit that usually goes bad or a switch on the side of the transmission. What code is showing? You need to have it scanned at your VW dealership to correctly diagnose your exact problem

1996 VW Passat GLS transmission shift problem

Like to make sure that your post says your car is a 1996 with only 38800 miles.
There were many recalls for your vehicle back then which may be the cause of your hard shifting. Are you the original owner ? If so, have you done any scheduled maintenance to it from the day you purchased it ?
