2001 Passat 1.8T brook the time belt

My 2001 Passat 1.8T brook the time belt and bent some valves. I had take the head cylinder out from my passat and bring it to shop machine Napa. They had fixed every thing for me, replacing valves etc. I received it like a new and fit it on my car again, including all new gaskets, new timing belt and water pump.

The timing belt pulley is the point aligned with head camshaft. All electrical are plugged right and the engine turns fine. Just do not starts. Also I had moved timing belt some tooth’s (2) to front and to back. Ps* (When I moved it a little to front, it started, but working bad, and check engine light flashing. Can help me???

Sometimes you must install the timing cover temporarily with the crank pulley to ensure you are at true Top Dead Center line up the notch on the pulley with the pointer on the timing belt cover or pointer on crankshaft cover I had a problem with a dual cam Honda in which the marks on the engine block where slightly off. you must ensure that both intake valves and exhaust valves are shut one cylinder #1 by turning the cams in the appropriate direction, from your description of the situation it sounds like when it runs poorley it is off by one tooth, when you move forward a tooth it runs but poorly make sure you are moving both cams if equipped with dual cam, both cams should be in the exact same visual location in other words all valves completly shut, be careful not to move lower shaft after lining up the crank pulley to cover pointer marks, after resetting turn the engine over two full turns then recheck all markers.

OVER SKIMMED CYLINDER HEAD VW PASSAT 2.0 FSI

that is alot of machining off the head? I would double check the valve timing first, then valve clearances. it that is no good you will have to replace the head and then kick your machinist up the bumb for cutting so much off

Passat's are known for bent valves! First get a compression test done! You can buy the tool for around $30! Compare the cylinders and see if one is lower then the others! If so, a valve could be sticking or bent. These cars are super sensitive to fast take offs. I know its hard not to do it. They just want to go! They have rubber timing belts and a spring pulley. They get stretched easily. You can also add some valve cleaner to your oil! I have rebuild hundreds of VW's over the years! 75% had crud on valves!

I have a 2002 Passat with a v6 engine with 65 000 mi . When should I replace the timing belt ? I understand the manual suggests 100 000 mi but I have heard many lower numbers . Thanks . [email protected]

I have an 02 Passat 2.8 4 Motion. I just had mine done at 95k and my mechanic said the belt was in surprisingly good condition. Although, its better safe than sorry. VW/Audi has had a history of premature belt breaks. If it does break say good bye to your engine. Both the 1.8T & 2.8 are interference engines. The cylinder will crush the valves.
Use a private shop...I paid $560 for both timing belt and water pump. Dealer quoted me $1300!

Ford Focus - 12 years old, broke timing belt. The garage is saying I need a complete new cylinder head. I suspected it was the timing belt and expected several bent valves at worst. My question is...

Here at my repair shop have never had to replace a cylinder head, due to timing belt failure, just replace bent valve's and machine head.

My passat 1999 tdi wont start after new timing belt fitted

If timing belt was replace due ti timing belt failure, more then likely it has piston to valve damage, this engine is an interference engine, to find out for sure, need to do a cylinder compression test, if any cylinder with zero, bent valves.

Timing belt broke

the 1.8L engine is an interference fit engine, this means when the timing belt breaks the cam stops turning which leaves some valves open, the crank keeps spinning and hits them, causing them to bend. It doesn't mean that they are all bent, but you can bet some of them are

Timing Belt Broke. 2002 Volkswagen Passat . Time for a new car?

i would go with the mechanics advice and allow them to fix it. 1200 to 1500 beats spending 4000 on another motor if that one can be saved
