My 98 Explorer just dies. It will be running fine and then it is dead. It happens while driving but it also happens while setting at a stop sign. It will turn over and it has plenty of fuel pressure. If I wait about 30 minutes, it will start up and drive just fine for awhile, and then it just dies again. Any ideas?

Could be an intermittent ignition control module. These things usually just stop you dead in your tracks but I have seen a few go intermittent first. Could also be an overheating fuel pump. You may have to install a temp gauge that can be read from inside the car to see if fuel pressure drops after you have been driving a while.

Check for vacuum leaks.

Have someone feather the gas pedal while you listen carefully to the engine. If the leak is bad enough you'll probable hear it.
More than likely, it's either a vacuum hose or the o-rings under the intake manifold.

Hope this helps!

My 2006 Mercury mariner keeps dying at stop signs.

Do an upper intake clean that will clean the throttle body and the Idle Air Control valve. Also clean the mass air flow sensor

98 explorer starts then dies

Been in accident and repaired? Check all sensors are plugged in and all earth wires have been reconnected. Does it splutter and die or just cut straight out? If just cut straight out it will be a sensor/computer fault.

My car just started acting up just last week, when i go to start up my car in the mourning it acts like its dead its a very slow start up, i'll let it warm up and i drive it down the street when i come to...

I somewhat had a problem similar to this I would suggest checking your coolant temperature sensor, its in the engine manifold, I have a 98 it was really easy to do, its like a 14 dollar piece, and what will happen over time the OEM sensor they have will crack, causing your computer to read that it is actually a lot colder than what it is and run a richer mixture causing your car to stall out when slowing down.

2002 ford explorer, driving home, stoped a light and it stalled

this is usually a sign of a bad starter when you turn the key and will not turn over but not sure why it died when stopping!
