I have an 02 chevy trailblazer with 220,000 miles that has intermittent transmission slippage. A few days ago i drove my truck about 30 miles and the transmission was shifting fine. I shut the vehicle off to attend class for 2 hours. When i went back out and drove away after a few minutes i started hearing this chattering sound and lost all response from the transmission as if all the fluid had been drained. I shut the vehicle off for about 30 seconds and restarted the the engine. Upon restarting the engine i was able to drive for another few minutes with normal shifts and no slipping. After restarting a few times i had it towed. I thought maybe the filter had come loose but i pulled the pan and everything was as it should be. The fluid level was where it should be. The fluid isnt burnt. It sounds like a possible computer issue because it drives fine for a few minutes after restarting the engine regardless of the transmission temperature. Im really not sure what i should check next. This is my daily driver and any help to get it road worthy again would be greatly appreciated .

SOURCE: transmission

Welcome to FIxYa.
As a Toyota Service Manager, my opinion is that you may have the wrong transmission fluid in your car.
The RAV/4 takes Toyota "Type T-4" ATF.
Using anything else will definitely cause you shifting problems.
My advice: Get the trans re-flushed with "Type T-4" as soon as possible, to avoid potential internal damage.

Thanks for choosing FIxYa for assistance; a FIxYa rating for my advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

John, this sounds like a valve hanging up in the valve body. The car shifts when the govenor pressure overcomes throttle valve pressure in this valve body.

What is the condition of the fluid? Is it at all dark or grey, does it smell burnt? It should be a nice light pink. If not, have the fluild and filter for the trans changed. This may take care of the problem.

If the oil is really burnt, you are at the end of the life of the clutches and you are looking at a complete trans rebuild. If the oil is ok, a trans shop should be able to take just the valve body down, clean it and eliminate the problem without overhauling the entire transmission

good luck

Sounds like you have a small bit of dirt or grit in the fuel system when accelerating it is drawn with enough force to cut off the fuel supply then is released when engine at Idle.
1 run liquid fuel line/injector cleaner in 1 tank
2 check fuel lines for debris
3 change fuel filters
4 have fuel tank flushed
here is trouble shooting order less expense to greater.

SOURCE: 2003 Buick Rendezvous Transmission Problem.

I would try changing the filter, I've seen some that should be changed every 20,000 miles. You might want to check for any DTC codes stored for the transmission. Auto Zone will do it for free. If there is a code that might point you in the right direction.

SOURCE: transmission shifts hard into second

it may be a bad tps ( throttle position sensor ). it causes transmission shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging, engine cut off, surge while crusing down highway. if this does not solve problem, it may be a sticking valve body in transmission. have a good day !! for an automatic tranny.

Actuator was replaced and now transmission is slipping

When you actuator, I assume you mean the one for the front drive splined disconnect. This would not cause transmission slippage. With your mileage, the transmission is due for an overhaul.

I had my 2006 Hyundai Sonata serviced two days ago. Had front brakes pads replace, power steering flushed, replaced front valve cover gasket and replace spark plugs, engine filter changed. Car drove fine...

that is just a basic 10,000 km service
check engine light on
undo battery terminals count ten reconnect
clears the codes
if check engine light returns
the code will be stored in the ecu

description sounds like an 02 sensor

04 Chevy Trailblazer...Will go so far maybe a couple miles and then no movement. The engine will rev but the car will not move. However, jump in it after a few hrs or a day later and it will move again.

Transmission filter is clogging up.This is bad because there should not be enough trash in the trans to restrict the filter. You may hear a buzzing noise when this happens, that is the pump cavitating.Bad news because a new filter is not going to fix the cause of the trash.time for a transmission.Good Luck.

Replaced transmission now abs light is on.

doing it your self is guessing
autozone and others do the code reading for free
at this point I would be checking the wires and connections as that distance after installing would be about right for a connection not put together properly would fall apart or a harness wire would burn through on the exhaust
