First off you would need to know from where an how this data get's to the instrument cluster , Computers involved ( control module's ) etc... serial data network - how the computers (modules ) communicate . Special tool's involved in testing this data - factory or professional scan tool - to view data from sensor's - temp sensor , fuel level sending unit in the fuel tank . Both of the these sensors are input's to the PCM/ECM - engine computer , which shares this info to other module's which need this info. The GMLAN serial data network is the data network which does this .
The instrument cluster has a microprocessor inside which view's this data an controls stepper motors to drive the gauge need .
Not working correctly or not at all can becaused by any number of thing's . The instrument cluster could have DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's stored . Auto part stores can not read these code's or BCM code's . .
Engine Coolant Temperature Gage
The engine control module (ECM) calculates the engine coolant temperature as determined by the coolant temperature sensor. The ECM sends the engine coolant temperature to the body control module (BCM) via the serial data circuit. The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the engine coolant temperature when the BCM sends a serial data message to the IPC indicating the engine coolant temperature. The engine coolant temperature gage defaults to 0° or below if:
• The ECM detects a malfunction in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit.
• The IPC detects a loss of serial data communications with the BCM.
• The BCM detects a loss of serial data communications with the ECM.
Fuel Gage
The engine control module (ECM) sends the fuel level percent to the BCM via the serial data circuit. The IPC displays the fuel level as received from the BCM. The fuel gage defaults to E (empty) if:
• The ECM detects a malfunction in the fuel level sensor circuit.
• The IPC detects a loss of serial data communications with the BCM.
• The BCM detects a loss of serial data communications with the ECM.
When the fuel level is less than a pre-determined value, the Low Fuel indicator message illuminates.

Your best bet , take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop.

SOURCE: outside temperature gauge for my malfunctions

The problem is a bad ambient air temp sensor or a broken wire to that sensor. The sensor usually is located in the front of the engine bay on the support for hood latch, between the outer grill and the radiator/condensor assemblies.

SOURCE: incorrect fuel gauge reading or no reading

While it could be a bad gauge, as it's an electric gauge, most likely it's the sending unit inside the gas tank. Make sure your fuses are good, and your ground wires are clean and tight, especially under the car. If all that checks out, you might want to drop the gas tank and pull out the sending unit.

Our 2008 pontiac torrent won't start,it ran fine all day yesterday until I turned off the ac ,started jerking/ hesatating so I pulled over and now it won't start any ideas?

Hello. It seems your Pontiac's catalytic converter is clogged; can't breathe. Some vehicles do not give a 'warning' their catalytic converter is clogging until its too late. Clogging catalytic converters causes missing, hesitation and stalling. Good luck and keep me informed; if you want to.

My 2008 Pontiac torrent gage is stuck at the top where the over heating mark is but there is no other indicators that it is overheating what does this mean.

• The BCM detects a loss of serial data communications with the ECM

The place to start would be to hook up a factory or professional scan tool to see what the actual coolant temperature is ! At the PCM then at the BCM and finally at the instrument cluster . If normal the gauge is bad . The instrument cluster would need to be taken out of the vehicle an sent to be repaired . Or you could buy a used one out of a salvage yard or from on e-bay etc....

2007 Torrent temperature gauge not working correctly. The car is not overheating. All other gauges working fine. i have changed the temp control sensor. Looking for insight. Thanks

You might have an air pocket trapped in upper radiator hose. If the coolant was low, refill and open bleeder screw to let air out.

How to tell if car is actually overheating

If you have a temperature gauge it should stay at or just below the middle when the vehicle is fully warmed up. Slight (very slight) fluctuation on the gauge is normal. This is all dependant upon having proper flow of coolant through your coolant system. If, for instance, your water pump is broken, there is no flow of fluid acros the temperature sensor, thereby giving you a false reading. The temperature sensors in the car need the fluid to flow across the sensor to give a true reading. When the car is fully warmed up, squeeze the top radiator hose hard a few times. You should feel moderate resistance and then you should feel the surge of coolant back through the hose as you release it. If you dont, your water pump may have quit working or you have a sizeable blockage in your coolant system.,

Where is the fuel filter on my 2008 Pontiac torrent gxp 3.6

The fuel filter is part of the primary fuel pump assembly, located inside of the fuel tank. It is not replaceable separately from the fuel pump. It does not have a service interval and cannot be separated from the pump.
