Well it could be several different things. The security system, the neutral safety switch, the starter, a bad connection, and so on.

if that has a chipped key for the security system,try another key,that will let you know if its a bad key or the reader is screwing up.

Typically dealers are the only people who can work with the security systems on cars. If it is a factory security system, calling a dealer would be your best option. If it is aftermarket, call the company that installed it. If you have a mechanic you trust, you are free to ask them for advice, but typically mechanics will refer you to a dealer for security system issues.

is the security light lit? try a different key to start.
if no start do the following.
try to start car then let go of key do not turn it off.
wait 15 min for security light to go out.
turn key off wait 5 seconds then try to start again.

the passkey system is not the best design, a little wear on the key and it won't start, if the tumbler wears out it won't start.

Ok I would look at changing the battery in your remote and go from there

Sound like the ANTI-THEFT system or PASS-LOCK system is armed; in your Cadillac Owners Manual (need yahoo register for free) could find this and other details...

There is no relay or reset. The security light is on because the system has failed. 1 or more of the parts involved is not functioning properly and creating a break in the antitheft communication. The best way ive found to beat this is to just bypass the whole system. Go to this link and read about it. There is a lot of info,pictures, and solutions on this link.

Might possibly be. Pontiacs were really tied into that anti theft security system. They were notorious for breaking. Here is a link to a site about these SECURITY systems. And possible DO IT YOURSELF solutions. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

Turn the key to on. The security ight should be flashing at this point. The key should be turned to on for about 10 mins. The security light will be steady now, the turn off then start it. This re-sets.
