SOURCE: 2001 Chevy Impala won't start
If the battery has gone dead, it could cause the security system to go into full lock-up mode. If it has locked up the accessories will work after the battery is charged back up , but the power to the starter will be cut off and it wont turn over. You need to do the 30 minute learn procedure. A GM dealer will print it out for you and you can do it yourself. It's very simple if you follow the procedure exact. hope this helps and good luck.

It's simple!...Open glove box door...youll see a plastic shell that is the glove box rear portion. You should find 4, 9/32nds or 7mm (same thing just SAE or Metric) screw heads. Undo four screws and with a flat blade screw driver, gently pry out on shell at either side to clear the door straps. Once clear, just work out of resting place, set aside. You will now see like 5 relays mounted on top of the air handler. Remove bracket that holds four of them + one that is mounted alone. Pull out of the way. Checking both inside and outside, remove all screws, bolts, nuts as it were, until it is obvious there are none left. Now, this is assuming this is where your problem lies! If you are simply having a blower problem, it might be the blower module mounted right beneath and just behind relays on top of air handling box. Just take your time so you dont break anything. SOURCE: vent door stuck and can't remove glove box
why can't you remove the glove box? You can get at the door from under the dash but it's a ***** to do. try lubing the vent cables unless it uses the vacuum motor, if it uses the vac. motor it will be hard to get to without the glove box being out.

If you sure eveything is off, it could be the alternator. The alternator has diodes in it, a diode is like a check valve for electricity. It allows the electricity to flow one way. The alternator has a direct power cable hooked to it from the battery. When the car is running the electricity flows from the alternator to the battery. When shut the car off the the diodes are supposed to stop the electricity from flowing back. I think there six diodes if one fails the alternator will still work but, it will also drain the battery over time. I suggest disconnecting the battery when you leave the car for any length of time, until you can have it checked by a mechanic.

The actuators for the vent dampers are faulty. I just had to replace 2 of them at the dealer ($300).
