here are step by step instructions on the removal and installation of your fuel tank and fuel pump. please do not forget to rate and comment about your experience with fixya today.
Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  3. Drain the fuel tank.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:
  5. While holding the modular fuel sender assembly down, remove the snapring, if equipped or if equipped with a cam lock ring use Fuel Sender Lock Nut Tool J-39765 to press down and rotate the cam lock ring to remove it.

WARNING If the modular fuel sender assembly is retained by a snapring, it may spring up from its position. When removing the modular fuel sender from the tank, be aware that the reservoir bucket is full of fuel. It must be tipped slightly during removal to avoid damage to the float.
    • Fuel sender assembly
    • External fuel strainer
    • Connector retainer from the wiring harness and the fuel pump
  6. Gently release the tabs on the sides of the fuel sender at the cover assembly. Begin by squeezing the sides of the reservoir and releasing the tab opposite the fuel level sensor. Move clockwise to release the second and third tab in the same manner.
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Fuel pump electrical connection by lifting the cover assembly
    • Baffle and pump assembly from the retainer by rotating the fuel pump baffle counterclockwise
    • Fuel pump outlet by sliding it out of slot
    • Fuel pump outlet seal
To install:
Install or connect the following:
    • Fuel pump outlet with a new seal by sliding it in the reservoir cover slots
    • Fuel pump and baffle assembly onto the reservoir retainer by rotating it clockwise until seated
    • Lower retainer assembly partially into the reservoir by aligning all 3 sleeve tabs and pressing the retainer onto the reservoir making sure all 3 tabs are firmly seated

NOTE Gently pull on the fuel pump reservoir to assure it is secure. If not secure, replace the entire fuel sender.
    • Connector retainer to the wiring harness and the fuel pump
    • External fuel strainer
    • Snapring, if equipped to the retainer slots while holding the modular fuel sender assembly down or use Fuel Sender Lock Nut Tool J-39765 in order to install the cam lock ring
    • Fuel tank

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
  3. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.

SOURCE: i need to reset the chage oil light for an alero

Instructions Things You'll Need:

  • Nothing!
  1. Step 1 So you had your oil changed or changed it yourself on you GM vehicle and the little light on the dashboard still says "Change Oil Soon". Your owner's manual should tell you how to reset it, however it's hidden away in one chapter or another. Here are the two easiest ways for most GMs.
  2. Step 2 First you need to turn your car On. This is not starting the car! Turn the key two "clicks" forward. All the dashboard lights should come on, along with the radio and odometer.
  3. Step 3 If your GM has the four buttons on the dashboard with all sorts of information:
One button should have a road or "i" on it. Pushing this button will show your mileage, tire pressure, operating temperature, and all sorts of other stuff.
You are looking for "oil life ##%". Once you find this, press and hold the button with the checkmark on it. After 5-10 seconds it should flash "oil life reset". Tada!
  4. Step 4 If your vehicle does not have the buttons mentioned above:
Turn the car "On" (without starting car!!)
Press the gas pedal all the way to the floor 3 times within 5 seconds. This is trickier than it sounds. It must be pressed ALL the way to the floor ALL 3 times.
Then wait 5-10 seconds. The Change Oil Soon light should blink then go out. If not, turn the car off and go through the steps again.

SOURCE: how do you check a 2004 alero transmission fluid

2004 Aleros with auto trans DO NOT have a dipstick under the hood. They do have a filler cap, located on the driver side, look straight down under the edge of the exhaust crossover, black cap with a gear on it. According to the Manuf. the AUTOMATIC Transmission (should not need to be checked unless there is a leak) has a plug in the side just like the manual transmission. You remove the plug in the side and fill thru the top until fluid runs out the side hole. Replace the plug and the fill cap when done.

Need to replace instrument cluster/AC bulbs

Hello, You can obtain a 2004 Ram Factory Service Manual with all of that information available from Promanuals.net. The reason why it may be so important is because right before the removal instructions the service manual has diagnostic instructions to try. There are numerous pages on removing the instrument cluster, and cluster bezel.

(1) Disconnect and isolate the battery negative
cable. (For Airbag)

(2) Remove the cluster bezel from the instrument
panel. (Refer to 23 - BODY/INSTRUMENT PANEL/
CLUSTER BEZEL - REMOVAL).

(3) Remove the four screws that secure the instrument
cluster to the instrument panel structural support
(Fig. 5).

(4) Pull the instrument cluster rearward far
enough to access and disconnect the instrument
panel wire harness connectors for the cluster from
the connector receptacles on the back of the cluster
housing.

(5) Remove the instrument cluster from the instrument
panel.

Replacing a bad gauge cluster with a salvage yard cluster

The mileage on your new (used) instrument cluster will show the mileage from the car it came out of, not the mileage on your vehicle. You'll need to get it reprogrammed which the dealer can do or there are independent shops that can do it too but they're kind of tough to find.
