Most likely the rack & pinion assembly needs replacing. Had the same issue on my '01 Taurus SES. Most of the fluid comes out just inside the left front wheel?
Usually with heat issues, electrical components are affected. It may be fuel pump relay, found in the relay box under the hood. CHeck also if you have spark when this happens during start. If there is no spark your ignition system may be faulty. Inspect first the hi tension wire for loose connections. A bad distributor means no or intermittent signal will be detected by the computer from it and in turn it will not activate the fuel pump. It could be either one of the said issues or both may be the cause.
Either the belt tensioner is going bad or the compressor or clutch is going bad. Is the belt tight? Check the deflection in the belt if it is to loose replace the tensioner. Also double check the belt part number and make sure they sold you the correct length belt.
