the amount of oil to refill the sump will be the regular amount plus 1/2 pint for the new filter. You will need to know the sump capacity ( from a owners hand book for your engine)
Hello firemancop91: My name is Roger and I will answer your question. The proper amount of oil when changing the oil filter at the same time is 5 qts. I would put 4 1/2 qts. oil in and start the engine. Recheck after you start the engine. Fill as needed. The reason is you can not buy a 1/2 qt. of oil. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer you received as this way I know it was helpful. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger
Basically depending if the car is completly drained of oil then you would need the almost extra 1ltr of oil, the engine would retain a certain amount of oil in the internal parts, i'e hydrolic tappets etc, thus they say up to 1 ltr, basically fill 3.8ltrs run the engine for a min, then check dipstick and top up as ness.
