VW Bora 2004 V5 I have a VW 04 V5. In the past few weeks I've noticed odd electrical problems. Firstly the windows wouldn't operatate but came good. Then the sun roof malfunctioned but also came good. Now the power is constantly draining from the battery. I'd be really appreciative of any advice or tips. I seen someone mentioned in another post that theirs was the glow plugs. Thanks in advance. Tracy

The Module in the Drivers Door is notorius for this problem. I would start by changing that first. Good luck to you. Thanks for using fixya!

SOURCE: electrical problem, battery drain.
Try to isolate the problem. If the current flow is between the fuse block and the window switch you may be grounding somewhere between. Next check the window switch. If there is current flow across the switch when not being used, replace the switch. There should be no current at the window motor until the switch is engaged. On the other hand, you could just buy one of those solar powered battery chargers for about $40 to keep the battery up and not worry about it until something fails.

Make sure that the microswitches in the rear trunk are all depressed. There is one where the parcel shelf (the cover that covers the view of the trunk from the outside) sits on the left that is usually the problem make sure that it is sitting on the microswitch (pull down on the closest side to you so it pivots forward and sits on the microswitch. Then make sure that the latch on the left side (drivers side) of the rear that allows easier access to the trunk switches the microswitch there. now close the trunk and try the conv top. the parcel shelf, the rear access latch and i think the trunk switches need to be depressed for the top to work. I know at least the first two.
SOURCE: 97 vw jetta w/aftr mkt. alarm drains battery and disarms on own?
My friend you are faced with a catch 22 problem. The first thing I would like to know is, who installed the alarm system? Did you do it or was it professionally installed. If it wwas professionally installed I would go right back there and discuss the problem with them. It very well could be a defective unit. If you did not have it installed professionally I would disconnect the alarm and see if your battery still get's drained. If so, then the alarm is not the culprit, and you have some hunting to do. If not then you have some testing to do.Next what type of alarm is it? Try to google it. You may be able to find a trouble shooting guide to assist you. I know that you said you just replaced the battery, but the alarm very well may not be the culprit. It could be many other things as a loose fanbelt, bad diodes in your alternator, or some other componet draining your battery.

common problem with vw bora, i have a v5 model and my reverse lights didnt work! if you look in at the top of the gearbox you'll see a plug with a wire going into it. check the wire for a break , just join the wires together again ,make sure you join the same colours to each of them and its job done.
