Maybe something wrong with multifunction switch? Your lower stop lamps are wired through the multifunction switch, the high mount stop lamp isn't wired that way. The lower brake lamps and turn signal, use the same bulb filament, just not at the same time. Sometimes, you can click on diagram to enlarge, if not, click on your highlighted post, sometimes on that page, you can enlarge.

Where is the brake relay on a 2001 gmc sierra.

Try wiggling the hazard light switch while pressing on the brakes. The taillights are connected to the turn signal switch before it goes to the brake switch. The contacts on the hazard switch are probably dirty(I remember this problem years ago, same symptoms-3rd light works but l/R tailights not working). You may just be able to turn the hazards on+off a bunch of times to clean the contacts instead of replacing the switch.

Replace the multi-function switch in the steering column. The 3rd brake light is powered directly off the brake switch while the regular brake lights are wired thru the turn signal switch. Common problem

2001 dodge neon tail lights inop

looking at your schematics and , you say tail lights don't work , you didn't mention if front parking lights and license plate lights are working , they all come from the same source , a black /yellow wire , a good clue if front work and rear don't , please advise .if fronts work then you have a open circuit somewhere between junction S118 (near breakout for left headlamp) and rear sockets.

Brake lights

Check your emergency flasher switch... if it located on the column it could have been "hit" and is inbetween the on and off location, this will cause the turn signals and break lights to malfunction

No rear brake light / turn signals on 2001 Chevy Cavalier

The problem is the turn signal/headlight/hazard switch assembly on the steering column which the brake light wiring runs through. The part is easy to change and cost about $50 at most parts stores
