first off our PCM in USA 1996 OBD2
all work the same, in this regard.
the DCTs seen on any and all tool is 2 kinds
stored errors
live errors. (real time live errors too ,and even Intermittent)
now the silly CEL (ses/mil) lamp glowing
the CEL does not glow for all errors that is what scan tool only does.
my guess is not using a real scan tool, it misses. all factory OEM DTC ERRORS STORED. SO THE $13 TOOLS NEVER WORK RIGHT AS THOSE ARE TOY GRADE TOOLS (OR WORSE CODE READERS)

THE PCM WILL NOT CLEAR MANY DTC ERRORS UNTIL 30 COLD START RUNS ARE DOWN, (EVEN THE SILLY GAS CAP LOOSE ERROR) YES THE TOOL WILL RESET THIS ERROR DTC.

THE SCAN TOOL IN MOST CASES CLEAR ALL DTC (NOT ABS)
BUT WHAT YOU FAIL TO KNOW IS THAT the error is LIVE and pops back fast and OR you scan tool is toy grade and can not see them.
cheap tools do not do ABS or SRS bags
nor P1 , P2 and up oem FACTORY codes
or can not do FACTORY U-nnnn codes or C-nnnn codes at all.
for sure you get what you pay for in scan tools!!!
$300 is a par price for one in USA good
the tool needs to be 2008 or newer here to see all CAN/Bus network errors,
and must be (Chrysler , code complaint)) both that and 2008 or newer most scan tools added can-bus in usa 2008 is why
but no country told, I only DO USA cars, period,

keep in mind, you can clear all DTC and they can come back in 1 second flats (FASTER THAN HUMANS CAN ACT)
one simple test to prove that is unplug A IAT OR ECT SENSOR
AND SEE CEL GLOW AND SEE DTC ERROR FOR IT IN 1 SECOND.
THOSE ARE LIVE ERRORS

MY BEST GUESS HERE IS YOUR SCAN TOOL IS NO GOOD.
ALSO THE PCM RUNS THE TRANSMISSION
AND IF TRANNY FAILS TOO THE CEL CAN GLOW . IN 1SECOND
AND MANY CARS HAVE P1 CODES FOR THAT MANY TOOLS CHEAP CAN NOT SEE AT ALL

GET A REAL SCAN TOOL ,RENTED, BORROWED OR BUY
OR GET THE CAR SCANNED IN A REAL SHOP

1: check all fuses.
2: scan the PCM for errors (DTC) and share them
3: or get it serviced as 99.9% do.


CEL= check engine lamp, or MIL/ SES.

canada went OBD2 in 1998, so this is usa car.

now how to clear DTCs. (all ways from Sunday)_
1: fix the problem.
2: then there are 4 ways to reset stored DTC errors (in memory ) not live errors.
you can not delete live errors,
well, you might for seconds... the bam,its back.

a: pull the ecu memory fuse (ask) for 5min.
b: push reset DTC on the scan tool(a button)
c: pull the battery, for 5min.
d: drive them off as the service manual tell you,nah.
this only deletes stored errors from OBD2 memory.
(EEPROM)

why not post the symptoms first?
and the real DTC'S stored.
you can not fix cars guessing nor, pushing buttons.

Take it to a mechanic and ask them to reset the ODC, or purchase an ODC reader that has reset capabilities.

DTC errors, CEL glows or not. (PCM errors) etc.
wow no year, now that is a challenge. nor country, 10x more hard.

1:pull battery neg lug, for 5min, (see radio die and NAV , after)
2: pull all PCM fuses,bam, it forgets
3:connect any scan tool, and press reset
4: correct error and drive them off, (the do clear,but can take like forever on some...)
#1 causes big time havoc on new cars.

every year they add more. my newer car has like 100.

CEL , check engine light, or SES. service engine soon.
Oil lamp... low oil pressure do not run engine.
charge lamp, battery will die soon (go discharged and car stalls)

a check engine light means, (means get it serviced)

the book is a FSM, factory service manual or SM.

learn fact one, many errors, will clear as you drive car,

the trans can lurch 2 ways.
slips. or flares, (bad trans)
or can shift late or early (too) and lurch.

misfire and scanned now can set any P03xx codes,
needs to be scanned failing to get the TRUTH.
eg: P0300 missed but now shows P0301 only, misses that truth.

bridge pins 5 & 6 in DLC connector
turn ignition to on position
count flashes from check engine light
connector behind front centre console right side
