SOURCE: wondering if a 1998 toyota corolla will fit in a 2000 corolla

In 1998 the 1zz-fe engine was intoduced. Toyota only added variable valve timing in the 2000-2002 1zz Corolla engines. Same engine same parts and components

Computers should not need swapped but you could go to the dealer and ask for the part number for 1998-2002 ECU's for Corolla. This is the electronic control modul on the car that runs the engines. It is usually located under the dash by the passengers side glove box.

SOURCE: Transmission swap for a '93 Toyota corolla

This is not a novice job. its quite sophisticated and you will need an assistant and a good set of tools to achieve this goal. It good to know a bit about the arrangement as well.

If you are considering it, i would advise to purchase the latest service and repair manual for this vehicle. this will help when you get to the really technical stuff dealing with the linkages and tcm.

I Have a 1993 GEO Prizm that the O/D light is flashing and it starts off I 2nd or 3rd gear.. the codes that was pulled are 26 and 36.. how do I fix this problem?

1.6L or 1.8L? engine.there are 3 engines,
1.6L with one injector and one with 4 and the 1.8L with 4.
and the ecu is different on each.

tell which terminals were jumped. and which lamp flashed?
Corolla - jump DLC terminals TE1 and E1 with a short lead 1

which transaxle.?
A131, A240i, a241h, or A245e, (the e trans is tcm shifted)
The 7AFE engine has the TCM and ECU in same box.
the 1.6L single injector engine runs a pure hydraulic trans.(no TCM)
TCM's engine/trans setups.
the 4speed, has 3 ranges switches, and 3 solenoids. and speed sensors., the MPI engine ecu shifts the transmission the TBI engine does not. MPI has 4 injectors, this your car?

if the OD flashes driving, this means TCM sees errors.
can be bad sensor inputs to the TCM
or bad shifter switch, (really they are sensors too, status switches)
and the TCM can see bad speed sensors.
the TCM can also flash if the solenoids are dead. or transmission slips. (nut shell answers)
IF it skips gears, the TCM may be in limphome, they do that on errors. to protect the transmission for damage.

first, off , prizm is just a toy corolla and those are really corolla

best page on car., but i cant find your codes? are you sure you counted correclty? 26 is too rich running. (fuel ratio) 36 I can not find anywhere, (stumped me)

Transmission?

It may be the shifter lever bushing at the base of the shifter. To check you must remove the stick shift cover. With the stick exposed, push down and turn on the plate that holds the shifter shaft. It is spring loaded and may take some effort. ( Remove stick while in neutral) Pull the stick out of the trans where the stick shift pivots should be a rubber bushing about the size of a half dollar. I think you can only get this part at a Toyota dealer. Hope this helps !
