You should actually check the fuel pressure with a gauge, you can probably borrow one from AutoZone. I would think you should have around 40 PSI. There should be a test port on the fuel rail (chrome tube on top of the engine). It could be a plugged fuel filter or frozen gas line if you're in a cold climate.

On most of your newer cars the fuel level sensor is located in the tank with the fuel pump. The only way to test it for proper operation is to remove the fuel pump and test the sensor.Unfortunitly your tank has to be removed because the pump and sensor as one unit. The fuel pump costs about 219.00 up to 229.00 depending on where your live plus your labor and that price changes from area to area.I hope that solves your problem for you.

How to take off fuel pump

the fuel pump is located inside the gas tank, you will have to look into your rear section area on your escape, under your carpet or cover, then you will find normally a round plate that is located onto the top of the gas tank, you will need a special tool to remove the cover, the fuel pump is inside, " note , sometimes you have to drop the gas tank to do this procedure, it can be time consuming. it is also best not to have a full tank of gas when doing this procedure , because tank will be heavier in removing, unless most of gas is syphoned out also after getting into the tank, you will be able to remove the pump and etc. if you have any doubts about doing this procedure, then please contact a garage or ford service center.

2006 Ford Escape spews gas from fill pipe during very cold weathe

The little air holes above the gas tank hole don't work very well on these. I've noticed it too. Just hold the pump at a little bit of an angle when this happens which will allow more air to escape your tank.

How would a 2006 ford expedition run with bad gas in it

It could consist of skipping, engine cutting off or hesitates from starting, idling . Bad gas gives numerous signs, the best way I have found to deal with this is, Buy a octane booster 104, go to the gas station and put a couple of gallons of high premium in to tank to disperse the water in the gas. They also make a liquid to take water out of gas which also goes into the tank.
