I have a 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse, it all of a sudden died. I tried to start it again and all it would do is crank over without actually starting up. Its not fuel pump. What else could be the problem?

Many things can make it stop and not restart. Even though the gas gauge reads it may be false and the car could be out of gas. The gas tank could have water in it especially if you just got gas from a station. If you think that there is water in the tank add a bottle of "heat" or tank dryer to the tank. A bad fuel filter or low fuel pressure, bad ecm(computer), bad ignition module or ignition components(coil etc), bad fuel injectors, bad crankshaft position sensor, bad ignition switch, bad relay(s) or blown fuse(s), security system/ignition key, or bad connector(s)/wiring issues. The best place to start is checking the fuses and scanning the computer for codes.

I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse. I was driving and it went dead. It will turn over but won't crank?

'Turning over' _is_ 'Cranking'! Yours is cranking, but not firing or starting.

Fuse 9? You need an auto electrician to find the short.

Sometimes my 03 eclipse will crank but not start,,,let it sit 10min and it starts like a champ...always runs sooth and doesn't die once started....

If pumping the accelerator seems to work ( it actually does nothing) then there is an indication of a sensor failure either in the accelerator position sensor or accelerator motor. run the fault codes and replace any faulty sensors.

Engine dies

Check the crank shaft positioning sensor. Had same problem with a 94 model. Also in a jeep. Replacing it should fix the problem.

1999 eclipse no spark

On the 2.0 and 2.4 engines there is an ignition module that fires the coil from input from the computer and sensors.
You may have to get a shop manual to have the testing procedures needed to check the module.

1995 mitsubishi eclipes turns off without warning while driving?

hi out telstar was doing that type of carry on and it finally died on the side of the road much to my wifes disgust . it ended up being the crank sender failing and cooking the ignition module. it was about $600 to fix but that was a few years back now. good luck

Swapped a 1999 420A engine into a 1995 eclipse (also a 420A) and we have no spark. We started by checking the cam sensor and it is working properly it is upside down from the 95 but the ASD relay is...

first the cam sensor shouldn't be upside down from the 95. they both should be with the plug facing down. they 95 CAS has a different plug than the 99 CAS.
the 95 has round pins and the 99 has flat pins.

also the 95-96 relays are opposite the 97-99

besides that it could be the ecu. i also have heard of the locating pin on the intake cam shearing off, allowing the gear to turn with the timing belt without the actual camshaft spinning.

2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse starts sometimes then wont and just makes a clicking sound, is my starter going out?

could be, unless your battery is dying. a nearly dead battery will make clicking noises while it is cranking. if you keep forcing it by turning the key from "run" to "crank" and it gets it to start it may be a dead spot on the starter.

I also have a Mitsubishi Eclipse (1999 2.0 L) that stalls intermittently when I come to a stop. It might run for a week with no problem, then do it again. It's an automatic transmission. At a stoplight rpm...

My 97 had intermittent starting problems. It never died while running but give this a try... The next time it won't start, remove the bottom of the back seat and turn the ignition on without cranking the engine. You should hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds and then turn off. If you don't hear it run, it could be a problem with the fuel pump relay. There are two relays that are part of the system and they are located in the engine compartment on the firewall next to the master cylinder. I replaced the cheaper of the two and that fixed it.
