Unless you are very low on gas, it sounds like it could be an issue with a few things. The battery, alternator, starter, or anything related to the fuel system could cause a problem like this. I would definitely suggest talking to a professional to get help with this. That way you know that the problem is getting resolved in the correct way. Hopefully you can get this figured out without too much trouble, it would definitely be frustrating to have your car randomly shut off like this.

you should probably just replace the iginition module if someone didnt test it with a graphing meter or lab scope. also check the fuel pressure. those are signs of the ignition module though

Why does my 1999 Ford Expedition eating starters after replacing valve cover, removed cruise control box but it is back exactly the same?

Its your starter shims. Put shims in , what is happening is your starter gear is remaining engaged even after it starts thus it tears up the starter and the gear. It may take 2-3 shims. When you replaced your first starter did it have shims? I am willing to bet it did. Give it a try and i bet this fixes your problem. Good luck

How to rekey a pontiac sunfire 2004

Im assuming you are refering to the anti theft security key relearn process.

1. Perform a security system relearn.
2. Let the vehicle sit for more than 10 minutes with the key off.
3. Attempt to start the engine, leave the key in the run position monitoring the security system indicator.
4. After 10 minutes, the security indicator will change state.
5. Turn the key off and wait 10 seconds.
6. Attempt to start the engine. If the engine stalls, wait another 10 minutes with the key on.
7. After the second 10 minute timer has expired, turn the key off for 10 seconds.
8. Attempt to start the engine. If the engine stalls, wait another 10 minutes with the key on.
9. After the 3rd 10 minute timer has expired, shut the key off for 10 seconds.
10. The security system will relearn on the 4th starting attempt and the engine should start and run.

10. The security system will relearn on the 4th starting attempt and the engine should start and run.
If this doesnt work, you may have a failure in your system. If the security light is on, and the reprogram doesnt work, you might want to look into bypassing that antitheft system.

I would like to know the actual temp it should run after changing thermostate. It runs about 1/2 way up. But when you cut it off and restart it its above 1/2 for a minute or so. I bleed the air valve on it...

When you run the engine, the coolant will remove heat and release it in the radiator. After you shut the engine off, the heat from the cylinders will still be there and the coolant will heat up some more. This is normal since there is no cooant circulating through the radiator.Without an actual temp gauge, there isn't any way of knowing just how much warmer it gets. I own a 1994 F 350 and have installed actual gauges. I can run my truck and watch the coolant temp. If I shut it off for up to 20 minutes, the gauge will go up ( sometimes as much as 20 degrees) when I start the engine, but return to the normal temps as the coolant is ciculated through the radiator.

Not Ready for Smog test

it is not how many miles but the type of driving.

here is a OBD2 drive cycle test.

Generic OBD II "Drive Cycle" Most OBD II ("On-Board Diagnostics II") diagnostic monitors will run at some time during normal operation of the vehicle.
However, to satisy all of the different Trip enable criteria and run all of the OBD II diagnostic monitors, the vehicle must be driven under a variety of conditions. The following drive cycle will (theoretically) allow all monitors to run on (??) vehicle. (Note: Drive cycle specifics vary by vehicle!)
  1. Ensure that the fuel tank is between 1/4 and 3/4 full.
  2. Start cold (below 86°F /30°C) and warm up until engine coolant temperature is at least 160° F (typically requires at least one minute; up to 3 minutes).
  3. Accelerate to 40-55 MPH at 25% throttle and maintain speed for five minutes.
  4. Decelerate without using the brake (coast down) to 20 MPH or less, then stop the vehicle. Allow the engine to idle for 10 seconds, turn the key off, and wait one minute.
  5. Restart and accelerate to 40-55 MPH at 25% throttle and maintain speed for two minutes.
  6. Decelerate with using the brake [or the clutch!] by coasting down to 20 MPH or less, then stop the vehicle. Allow the engine to idle for 10 seconds, turn the key off, and wait one minute.

I don't know how much oil i need for an oil change

With oil filter you'll need 5 quarts. After changing oil and filter run briefly and check for leaks. Shut down the engine and check oil level is correct.
I hope this may have helped,
