My 2003 Dodge neon engine light stays on. I turned car off, added 1 quart of oil. Light went off for a while. Used my car later, and the light stayed on SOLID--NOT BLINKING. However, I got the "bing, bing" sound to announce it--like the noise you hear when your seatbelt is not hooked up. What to do? Will all "Autozone" scan codes for free?

If you used one of the 'quick lube' shops, you may not have any oil in it at all.
One of them drained the automatic transmission instead of the oil and even filled the transmission with engine oil, destroying it.
$6000 later with a law suit behind her, she got her car and money back.
Most of those shops employ idiots and I would never entrust any vehicle to them.
OK, now you added 2 quarts of oil just because someone told you to. Did you check the oil level yourself? That is very suspicious unless your engine is smoking and burning oil. Park the car on a level surface, shut the engine off, and after 30 minutes remove the dip stick and check the oil level. You may find it is overfull. If it is that is just as bad as unde-full. In any case, Change the oil & filter and use a quality filter such as Purolator or Wix and the correct weight oil which will probably be 5w20. Check your owner's manual to be sure. If the oil light is still on, have a oil pressure test run. You may have nothing more than a bad oil pressure sending unit.
there is a code 51 first of all, try putting octane boost in the tank, there has been several completes all across the country of watered gas, i have a 96 and a 95 neon and within days of filling both up the code 51 came up. the boost helped 1 and the MAP sensor had to be replaced on the 96. hope this helps
oil pressure code more than likely but swing by a parts store and have them pull the code for you. they do it for free everywhere around me... Atl GA that way you know the code and it's free
take car to autozone have them pull codes . they tell what wrong with car and untill they are all fixed the will stay on it can be reset ,but like isay it must be fixed first to stay off.check with dealer for book. later
i have a 2003 dodge neon and mine does the same thing and i had the oil changed by the dealer, its full of oil as well, they put just a tad over in it and the light comes on and blinks for second then goes off and the only thing i do is let the oil go out on its own and get to the level its supose to be and once it gets to that it will stop, well it should but if you want to be sure have it checked out. i hope this helps you out, let me know if it does.
you might try and change the pcv valve, my car hand a similar problem in the summer and i never changed it. the pressure blew my cam seal and i was leaking oil like crazy. i dont know if it will fix it but they are cheap. i would give it a try.
