Its not the oil relief valve, since it only works when pressure is to high, and even then you dont lose all pressure.. look into the camshaft synchronizer having a broken drive gear at the bottom.they tend to break..working on one now that has this problem,so I know. luck to ya!

SOURCE: what type of oil goes in the 88 ford ranger 10w30?

Hi,
I generally use a 10w30 in my vehicles. If an engine has a lot of miles and rattles a bit or has low oil pressure, sometimes a thicker oil might be desired. You can't hurt your engine with either choice.
Brand is another matter... my pick, Castrol. It doesn't "sludge" like other brands... like Pennsoil.... sorry, Pennsoil fans... just my humble opinion. ha
Hope this helped

SOURCE: 88 ford ranger 2.9 low oil pressure

i just bought a BII with famous tick..........oil pressure light came on (no gauge). I installed mechanic gauge and showed 5 psi so I decided to replace oil pump. Pulled pan off (not fun!) the pickup tube was clogged and the was part of the timing chain tensioner in pan. I then pulled timing cover off only to find chain streched and the chain guide and tensioner pretty much gone. I think tick was chain slap..........will know for sure in a couple days.

SOURCE: fuel pump replacement for a Ford 1991 Ranger

Remove the gas tank when first emptied out. The pump is inside of the tank. Have the tank supported upon removing so the lines can be removed next then drop it down to remove the top retaining nut to remove the sender with the pump

SOURCE: I have a 97 Ford Ranger with a 4.0 with 122,00

first of all, check the oil pressure sending sensor it may be bad. next make sure it is full of oil. if its not the sensor, and it has plenty of oil, it has to be the oil pump or the pump screen is clogged up. run a mechanical test to see if you have any oil pressure. go to any auto parts store and they will tell you how to do this.

I need to raise my engine on a ford ranger to replace the oil pump. I can't get the engine high enough. 1989, 2300cc, standard, no air

You'll need to unbolt the motor from the transmission to raise the engine enough to get the oil pump out.

Ford ranger 1988 pistons are stuck

Why are they stuck? Is it from setting and there rusted up? or are they sezed up from lack of oil? If its rust just take some trans oil and pour some into each spark plug hole and let it set over night, and then put a socket on the harmonic and turn back and forth until it frees up. If its lack of oil its my best guess you better look for another engine.

Misses when hot also lifters become noisy

The camshaft may be worn or the lifters .that explains the missing when you run it at operating temp.By the description of the oil. the reasomn the canmshaft wore out and the valve lifters is because the oil was not changed on a regular basis.

88 ford ranger 2.9 low oil pressure

Possibly clearances "closing" at operating temparature? 20w50? Kinda heavy isn't it?Spun bearing - should make more noise than a "Tap"? I've heard several low and high mileage 2.9 engines "tap" but quits after warm up? That SEEMS to be somewhat common with the2.9 Sorry can't be more specific.
