Hi Jay:
The brakes and turn signals are on the same circuit. I'd recommend starting by checking your fuses.

SOURCE: 1999 f150 turn signals and brake lights out. High mast still work

The signal lights work through a relay but the brake lights work through the signal switch, if both are out I think you'll find the problem is the signal switch.

Check the left side of the vehicle for a blown bulb or incorrect bulb in one of the sockets. The fast flash is a signal to tell you something is wrong with that side

I cannot fix the rear left turn signal/brake light on a 1997 Ford Contour. Where does this circuit go? I don't want to have to take the car to a Ford dealer to fix.

The turn signal/brake light wire goes to the turn signal mechanism in the steering column. It does this so your brake light and turn signals work at the same time. For example you put your foot on the brake and the left brake light will come on but allow the right turn signal to flash. Try you four way flashers and see what happens. Also be wary of the socket the bulb fits into. Double check for voltage with a test light at the wire coming in from the back. Check that the socket is getting a good ground. You can run a ground wire to a clean area of metal from the socket if you have to.

1999 Ford Contour Sport. My right turn signal works but does not

Check the wires to the plug. You can remove the plug by pressing on the wire clip and pulling apart. Check the terminals for corrosion and clean them if corroded/rusty, then assemble. Remove the bulb and check corrosion on the bulb contacts in the bulb socket and reassemble. Turn the lights on and try wiggling the wires and ttwisting the bulb slightly to check contact, while the bulb receptacle is out of the brake light. If the light comes back on when you have done these things then this may have been the problem. Try using a dielectric grease on the wiring connections and in the socket of the bulb to alleviate any more issues.(I have a contour also so this was the problem with mine) Wayne

No brake lights on a 1996 ford contour ..3rd light and blinkers work fine I have ohm'd out brake switch on pedal and it is good ..blinkers on front and back both work.. no power to bulb socket on brown to...

The brake lights (excluding the 3rd brake light) go through the turn signal switch. It's possible there's a bad connection in the switch causing your symptoms. I would rule out the brake switch on the pedal, considering the third brake light works. Locate a wiring diagram for the brake light circuit, follow the wires into the steering column as far as you can and verify it's getting power up until the turn signal switch and verify no power is coming out of it. Once that's determined it's time to replace the switch.

97 FORD CONTOR NO BRAKE LIGHTS INSIDE REAR WINDOW BRAKE LIGHT WORKS,SIGNALS WORK EMEGENCY WORKS TOO ,BUT NO BRAKE LIGHTS. HELP!

If there is no fuse that is blown, then according to wiring diagrams on autozone.com repair info link it must be the combination switch: http://econtent.autozone.com:24991/znetrgs/repair_guide_content/en_us/images//0900c152/80/0a/8d/31//large/0900c152800a8d31.gif

My mother's brake lights (1996 Ford Contour) were not working and it was the combination switch. The combination switch is an assembly by the wheel, you use it to give turn signals, high beam, hazard lights and apparently the 'smart' Ford designers linked the rear brake lights to it. Could be a contact that is oxidized. I repaired mine. I may have one lying around. You can get this from a junk yard. I believe it is pretty simple to remove.
