Hi,

Sounds like your speed sensor (odometer sensor) is failing or failed. This sensor is found on the tranny. Best to consult your local dealership.

I have that problem as well and so do others

SPEEDOMETER SETTLEMENT NOTICE

The court granted approval of the settlement and entered judgment on November 7, 2008. However, two separate appeals have been filed which seek to challenge the court's approval of the settlement. The settlement will not become effective unless and until all such challenges have been resolved and the judgment has been upheld.
Please check back to this site or call our toll-free number
(866) 514-0405 after January 19, 2009, to determine the status of the appeals and whether the settlement has become effective.

The problem may be the Electrical - Powertrain control - Vehicle speed sensor, which is easy to replace but why should you have to pay for it if that is the problem. A GMC mechanic inform me that water is he main cause for its failure.

There are others who have call a GMC Service Rep to have it fix, which i will try first.

Hello all,
It's hard to believe that a company we all support (and used to love) would leave us in the dust and turn it back on us. It is so obvious they have a speedo cluster defect and expect us to pay for their incompetence!!!!
And they actually want us, the people they are burning of hard earned dollars, to bail them out!!!
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you dig, you will find unimaginable amounts of people with this same problem on the internet and they know it.

Shame on them, and on us, if we give them another chance to do it to us again. They sit in their offices of gold and wonder why the empire is failing, dah!!! You can only rip people off for so long before it will bite you back.

They expect to have a long term business with short term business pricipals, dah again!!!
If you have a problem as I do, call 1-866-0405 or log on to www.speedometersettlement.com for info regarding your bogus speedo.

Is america producing anything of quality anymore?

SOURCE: Car stutters at startup

My car did the same thing and I went and had it checked out. They had to replace my mass air flow censor. Cost me a little over $200. The only thing is after I had it fixed, my check engine light kept coming on. They said that my fuel line was running rich because I had ran my car so long with that problem. May want to get that checked out!

SOURCE: the speedometer on my 2004 chevy silverado stop

Hi. This is a common issue for this model. GM actually sent out an alert to all Silverado owners stating that some of the '04s had speedo problems (i.e. inaccurate readings, jumping, and totally inoperable) and it was covered by GM. Maybe you could check you GM dealer near you.

What is the drive cycle for a 2003 Nissan Sentra SE?

Take extra caution while performing dirve cycles on public roadways. Drive cycles can be difficult to follow under normal driving conditions. Begin by: - Start the engine. Idle the engine in drive for two and a half minutes with the A/C and rear defroster on. - Turn the A/C and rear defrost off, and accelerate to 55 mph at half throttle. - Hold at a steady speed of 55 mph for three minutes. - Decelerate (coast down) to 20 mph without braking or depressing the clutch. - Accelerate back to 55 to 60 mph at ¾ throttle. - Hold at a steady speed of 55 to 60 mph for five minutes. - Decelerate (coast down) to a stop without braking. If all other emissions systems are functioning properly, completing the drive cycle above will set the "readiness flags" required to pass the smog check. It will not hurt to perform the drive cycle 2 or 3 times before the smog test.

Wont go passed 20 mph

Check for a clogged or broken catylitic converter. Since you didn't mention the check engine light or any other symptoms, that's where I would start.

Nissan Maxima speedometer reads 20 mph but actual speed is 40-50 mph, is my transmission going bad?

NO, IT'S NOT THE TRANSMISSION! SOUNDS LIKE A SPEEDOMETER PROBLEM! THAT WOULD BE ONE OF THREE THINGS! EITHER THE SPEEDOMETER, THE CABLE, OR THE SPEED SENSOR! THE SPEED SENSOR WILL USUALLY GIVE YOU A P0500 CODE ON AN OBD-II CODE READER! THE SPEED SENSOR IS ELECTRONIC SPEED CONTROL LOCATED ON THE TRANSMISSION! SOME HAVE A SPEEDOMETER CABLE HOOKED TO THEM, AND SOME JUST HAVE A 2 WIRE PLUG THAT HOOKS TO IT!

Speedometer on 1999 maxima wrong, faster you go the farther off. approx. 20 mph faster at 60 mph. replaced vss.

do you have aftermarket wheel on the car?? bigger wheels can cause speed signal failure resulting in speedo acting up. different size tires will have different circumference causing speedo issues.
