Could be a bad starter relay?

all the neon I have seen have way to small battery cables and ground wires. We had this issue with our neon. Replace both ground to engine block and battery to starter cables , and terminal ends with heavy duty ones . and add a heavy duty ground cable from battery to body. this will permit the charging / starting systems to work with greater efficiency.

Have you tried jumpstarting with another battery? If you have confirmed that the battery is not the problem, the issue may be the starter if you simply get nothing when the key is turned.

sounds like a leaking head gasket

those keys have computer chips in them, the only way to fix it is to go to a locksmith of a dealership and get a new key, sorry.

Since the battery light was 'on', it seems the vehicle's charging system has failed.
Get the charging rate, and probabley the alternator will need overhauling.

you may be right, try a spare key, that will elimanate the key chip, you will need a scan tool to diagnose this problem, also with key in crank position is there power at starter, the scan tool can tell yuo if computer is reading key chip signal and if signal if right and also you can see if starter is receiving start signal, good luck.

Everything is working fine now without anything further being done. Maybe a 'short'. Anyway we will track of if & maybe make a few enquiries. Thanks

Shake or gentle tug on the wiring harness and try starting the engine! I found that my problem was with the cam sensor wiring harness
