SOURCE: 1996 nissan sentra gear selector sticks

IT COULD BE A FUSE ,IT COULD BE A RELAY TOO, BECAUSE IF IT IS NOT GETTING POWER TO THE SWITCH ON THE BRAKE PEDAL OR FROM THE COLUMN TO THE SWITCH, IT WILL NOT LET IT RELEASE, ITS ALSO POSSIBLE THE SWITCH IS BAD ON THE BRK PEDAL.

I have a nissan altima 2006. It wont shift from park unless I manually push the shift lock button

could be a few things possibly faulty brake pedal switch, faulty solenoid in the gear selector, bad wiring. I would probably start with brake pedal switch .

My car wouldn't come out of park so my ex forced it out and broke it. The car sounds like it wants to shift and its an automatic. When I put the car in drive or reverse it revs up but it wont move.

What make , model , year an engine size ? All vehicles have a safety system ,shifter interlock . This system will not let the gear selector move from park unless the driver is pushing the brake pedal . Has a electrically controlled solenoid that locks it in park , also has brake pedal switch . Could have a control module involved ,like a BCM - body control module etc.... Maybe he broke the gear selector cable or a plastic part on the end of the cable. Looking under the hood at the transmission connection of the cable while someone moves the gear selector ,does the transmission selector move .

2012 Chrysler Town and Country wont shift out of park

Probably a problem with the shifter interlock system . Won't allow the gear selector to move from park with the engine running unless the driver is pushing on the brake pedal . Locking solenoid in the shifter , brake pedal switch , wiring etc... may even have a body control module in the loop controlling these system . Do the brake light's work ? Some of these system's have a release point in the shifter assembly . Don't know if this is your problem without checking it out .

Mazda 3 2005 won shift from park and won star either I have to put in neutral to b able to star car?

If it won't shift from park my first question would be how do you get it Into neutral? Sounds like you may have a gear selector sensor issue .

Gear selector won't shift from park to reverse

Could be the brake switch or the solenoid that locks the shifter in park.
That circuit would need to be tested.

My 1994 chevy 1500 wont go into gear, i can move the shift lever around but it acts like its in park. it happend this morning, i backed out of my parking spot then shifted into park for a second, after...

Soounds like the shop that did the work did not install the shift cable back onto the transmission fullky and it popped off. Look under the truck, drivers side, and you may see a cable dangling. If so that needs to be reconnected to the post on the transmission shift selector on the transmission.it should pop on with a solid push.
