06 cobalt My idle keeps on going up and down between 500 and 750 rpms when I come to a stop. It hasn't shut off on me yet, but it seems like it is going to. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Sounds like your idle air control valve is going out on you. The IAC is located on the throttle body which is where the air duct tube ends coming from the air filter. It is held on by a couple of screws and is easy to replace. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

I had same issue with my Cobalt. Told to buy mass air flow cleaner and spray into throttle body while car is running. Follow the instructions above to access the throttle body. Was told to do this on regular intervals as part of my preventive maintenance every three months. Clean more frequently if in a dusty or dirty environment.

Check your air filter, and if you haven't change your fuel filter. Other than this you can run some fuel injector cleaner through the system. These should all start to help, if the problem persists have your fuel system pressure checked.

08 Cobalt starts and idles but the dash starts blinking and going crazy the rpms and mph gages start going up and down and it doesnt want to shift

There should be ground wires going to the transmission. Check these. loose connections at the bolts and bad wires. Just a note. these wires come from the engine control module, which controls all you are talking about.

My cobalt's engine is surging from 500 to 800 rpms when I come to a stop What's the problem?

SURGING COULD BE FAULTY FUEL PUMP OR IDLE SPEED CONTROL GOING BAD OR TRASMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER WILL CAUSE ENGINE TO SURGE WHILE ITS UNLOCKING AND LOCKING UP DUE TO A FAULTY FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID.

Shutting off

has the fuel pump ever been changed?????Sounds like u have enough fuel pressure 4 idle but not enough 4 run.Have it checked...sometimes after getting 2 the pump it's not the pump it's the discharge hose @ 1 to 1-1/2 long dry rotted & losing pressure therefore not running

Cobalt not running at low rpm.......

All are possibilities but EGR valve makes the most sense. It's famous for causing poor idling and/or stalling at low RPMS. Best of luck.

06 COBALT STALLS WHEN I STOP AHHHHHHHHHHHH

Easy fix... Take a gallon of gas and a clean cloth or shirt. Soak the cloth in the gas and wipe all the interior down with the gas.

Then poor some of the gas all over the engine, making sure to soak it really good

After doing this, take a match and burn that f**ker..
Mine was doing the same thing, I burned it and blamed it on Islamic jihad to my insurance. Never looked back

Idle too high on a 06 cobalt

when you clean it make sure that you hold the butterfly open so you can get the spots clean that need it. If there is anything in the way the butterfly will not close. Just a small bit of dirt will do this .
