What caused my Lincoln ls to surge while foot was on the brake?

While parking after a 25 mile trip (in my Lincoln LS with 70,00 miles,) the engine surged to high revs, while my foot was on the brake. What would cause this, and how is it repaired?

My 1st guess or 1st instinct would be to say it's a computer software issue, becasue I can't think of anything mechanical that could cause this type of issue. I suggest instead of asking here, you contact your car dealer or manufacturer.

SOURCE: lINCOLN ls bRAKE lIGHT REPLACEMENT

One of 2 ways.......

#1) mounting screws on the exterior of the brake light lens.

#2) in the trunk behind the carpeting, usually this is the easiest way. either way the bulb is held in by a twist lock bulb holder.

If the air bag light is on there is a problem with the air bag. The light means the air bags will not deploy in an accident. Only a qualified tech should work on air bags.

Engine rpm surges intermitently

Miles? Have you replaced ignition coils recently? Pretty good chance that they could be going bad. I would start by swapping all 8 coils and plugs and probably changing the valve cover gasket as well as those are known to go bad in the 2000-2003 LS

Parking brake

The 2006 LS has a parking brake that is controlled electronically. When power is lost to the car (battery disconnected etc.) the brake has to be reprogrammed to relearn what position it is in at the time. When this happens the info center up by the speedometer reads "foot on brake." If you depress your brake pedal the message will change to the next step and will walk you through the reprogramming. I believe you activate the parking brake next and then turn it back off and drive around the block, activate again, turn off again and shut down car. When you restart the car the parking brake will be reprogrammed however if you overlook the foot on brake message (like I did for a while) the car will be confused about whether the parking brake is on or off for awhile. This whole process is listed in the owners manual in case I have forgotten any of the steps. Hope this helps.

If you never moved it in ten months,
you will have to take all 4 brakes apart
and clean off all rust and lube pad slippers etc

The (P) is the Electronic Parking Brake
Is wouldn't worry about that until I cleaned
up the brakes and screwed the rear caliper
piston in and out a few times and ratcheted
up the park brake.

I had difficulty shifting my from park to reverse while my ny 2003 Lincoln LS was parked on an fairly steep incline? Is that normal?

You should always use your parking brake. Leave your foot on the brake, then apply the parking brake. If you don't,the only thing holding the car, is the mechanical parking pawl in the transmission, and yes, it could break or fail to hold the weight off the vehicle, and it would roll away,as well as damage the trans.

When I start-up the engine and put it in drive, I could feel the car raise up. what happened; it does not do it any more. Lincoln LS 2002 -V6

That feeling of raising up,only happens when your foot is on the brake and you pull up on the Electronic Parking Brake.

Also what you discribe, could be caused by starting the engine and immediately putting it in gear, before allowing the idle to come down.

I never start any vehicle and drive away. Even in warm weather I let the vehicle warm up about three minutes or more and drive slow for a couple of miles ,until it is in closed loop. That's when the O2 Sensor takes over and controls the fuel system. So forget about saving fuel by leaving on a cold engine. That is nonsense and not fact or theory based.

2001 lincoln ls will not shift out of park

Brake interlock, your foot needs to be on the brake to shift out of park. If you are doing that and you still can't shift then check all your fuses, the lock circuit may be out
