A/c-101
1: the dash fan "blower" must blow,
2: The A/c lamp glows.
3: the compression on the engine turns the shaft there must spin.
not just the pulley spin, the center shaft of the compressor.
that is basics, do tell what you have. and we can go to any level.
with a tool called a voltmeter.
if not , DIY is impossible.

Check the cooling fan relay. Have a guy(or girl) at an auto part store (AutoZone, etc..) hook up a diagnostic code reader to the hookup uner the steering column dash. I replaced mine, but it was timely and alittle tricky. If you have some tech ability, you can do it, but if not, it will probably be about $350.
If you let the jeep run with the a/c on, look at the cooling fan and see if it cycles on after a few minutes. If it doesnt, it could be the relay, if it does come on, then it could be a condensor prob.

How often has the coolant been changed? My only guess is that it hasn't and the hoses and the heater core are plugged up with goo and a flush is needed

check ac compressor to see if clutch is engaging with system turned on.if not could be low system pressure safety switch which wont allow to run because freon is to low.

check the drive line play at the output of the transfer case to the rear universal joint.the gears are known for that.
