This appears to be related to the engine being warm. When the temp rises, the valves can expand or not seat, the gaskets might have issues, you need to run compression tests or leak down tests on the engine and those tests require the engine to be hot.
You need to look at the temp sending unit it's probably faulty anthor issue with volvo is dirty throttle body's this raises havoc on the car they idle up down all over the map also you should change the thermostat too as a precautionary measure make sure it's the right temp for your year of your car thanx Chris
Is the vehicle fitted with the standard stereo fitted by the manufacturer? If not, then there is a strong chance that these controls are not compatible.
I would recommend redline D4. It is VW and Audi and Volvo applications at the shop. It is a synthetic fluid. which also cures a lot of drivability issues known with the vw an audi automatics.
