SOURCE: hood release cable broken, how do i open the hood ?

I have a similar problem with my 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. The way I open the hood is to reach my hand between the radiator and the front of the car, and for me there is a bar running right up the middle if I follew that too the top, and on the drivers side of that bar should be the hood release, and I feel around till I feel the hood release cable, and then I push on the lever that the cable is attached too, most of the time this works. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: hood release will not release hood cable is not broken

the outer cable may have come loose near the lock, if the grille screws are accessable remove the grille and you will have access to the underside of the lock, you may need a screwdriver to push the lock lever aside to unlock the bonnet

On 2012 Nissan Maxima. How do you connect the hood release cable back to the lever inside the car please?

It comes with the lever and housing attached if it is an OEM part.

If yours doesn't, keep disconnected at the hood latch end and remove the whole handle assembly. Grab the cable with locking grips and fix it to the handle. Put the housing and lever back, then connect at the hood latch. Videos here

Need to replace a hood release cable but first need to open the hood without a hood release lever. Any suggestions? Also may need to adjust the hood mechanism because the hood is so hard to release.

Hi!!
Grab the release cable with a pair of channel lock pliers to pull it open. Lubricate all release mechanism including the release lever, that will easy the release lever.
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

Econoline hood release not releasing. Latch at front of hood moves just fine. I can pull the hood release under the dash a couple inches, but it is not releasing anything at the hood end. What can I do to...

first, try smacking the hood at one of the front corners while someone else pulls the release handle. or even after you've pulled on it. if that works, once open, adjust and lubricate the hood latch assembly. if it still won't open, and it's the cable and not the latch you'll have to replace it anyway, so instead of removing the grill, cut the cable behind the pull lever under the dash where you can reach it. then skin the outer cable insulation away from the actual steel cable exposing an inch or two of it. then holding the insulation and plastic housing with pliers, grab the steel cable itself with pliers and pull it to open the hood. then replace the cable. the further you can reach up under the panel the better your chances of getting past the broken part of the cable and avoid removing the grill. you might also be able to gain access from up under the car if you're lucky.

Broken hood release cable how to open hood

you can often release the hood latch from under the car, or through the grille, by reaching up to the hood latch mechanism with a long screwdriver or pliers, or a piece of coat hanger, whichever works in your particular case. G/L

Ford excursion

you will need to locate the hood release cable behind the pull handle and pull the cable with pliers and once the hood is open you can rig something through the grill to open. But I would recomend replacing the cable or the pull release to keep others out from under hood.
