Usually the cause to this would be either bad spark plugs, bad spark plug wires or if they are new then it could be as simple as a vacuum leak but it is an older car and valve clearances might be off, valves could be clotted with carbon, not allowing the to open or close properly.

I have a 1991 grand am 2.3 dohc it sound like it is miss, it running a little ruff u can smell gas to a little from the exhaust so I change the fuel filter, sparks plugs ignition module distributor cover,...

Sounds like you have an air to fuel mixture problem, have you put a scan tool on it, being a gm i suspect it may be the mass air flow sensor/map. Pull the codes to see why you are dumping fuel

2000 grand prix, 3800 when it warms up losses power

I would have to say the fuel/water separator filter is clogged up. The filter will remove water and crud from the gas. It looks more like a small can under the car. If the car set up with a low tank of gas, water will condensate inside and once the new fuel sloshes around it gets all this junk off the walls of the tank and that gets sucked in the filter. Try and replace that first..

When first started, car is running slow an ruff;then smooths out an then runs great

1. It's spelled "rough", not "ruff".

2. Clean your fuel system with a commercial grade cleaner like BG-44K.

4.5 liter engine runs ruff intemitent seems rich. smokes at firewall. Runs fine when cold. Runs ruff after 4 or so miles.

Hi I own a cadillac with the same motor. Never smoked but had all the same issues, ran fine cold but after a little driving (less than 2 miles) it shook like nothing else. The cause was the motor self destructed had to replace valves all 8 bosh injectors 2000 dollars later she is like new. Sorry about the bad news goodluck.
